Feel like that depends on the situation, most of the time it's better to follow it up into alpha or just using beta again to catch the opponent off guard but there might be situations where a jump melee just secures you a combo
I just realized this is about Momo but it can work here too, beta is the reason why the MU even when Momo is in their most favorable position is winning for Compress imo

I would focus on pairing either embrittle or sisterly with a generic perk that's good at low levels like revenge technical/assault/support or gp replenishment if it's still bugged
If he ever gets a PUR costume with Compress I'd consider Divine Protection as well, he benefits a lot from having that maxed out on any build type with an available green special tuning slot
Non pur compress is good with froppy tuning and embrittlment at low levels

His kit is situationally overpowered against specifically characters that apply pressure with projectiles

If I'm using it in a grounded state I've either set up a beta trap or I'm breaking up my strafe to predict your shots

But the way I have tried to fix it is, by putting my sens up to increase the speed of my movements
This allows me to alpha and then look around in time to hit a second one
His alpha has a delay kind of when shooting it, between delay you can move your camera without the marble moving too
This allows you to vision other enemies or change position mid alpha
Very useful if you find urself in a 1v3

The BEST for like special tuning wise is the one punch build
Over time dmg would be this one

If ur good I would suggest the one shot build
But I have found more recently that I am enjoying nejire tuning a LOT on compress

Weird question, but how would you describe the purpose of melee cancelling to someone who doesn't play Compress. Not as in how to do it, but why people do it
It allows you to deal more damage
It creates a stun that allows dmg without full knockdown
It's a combo extender that's better than a normal melee stall combo because it allows you to weave alphas in between, allowing for higher potential damage output for your ToD (touch of death)
If I get the opportunity to play the game again the first thing I'm doing is getting good at melee cancel
Itās starting to become the differentiating the good and bad conpessses

ToD was already a marker
A pretty good one at that
Yeah the easiest ToD is still alphas untill break, to melee string or melee cancel
You won't really catch many people doing that if they're starting off or picking up the character
I also think having a decent understanding of how to use his long range alpha is another good marker because it helps a lot with certain mus (kendo, iida, hawks, etc.)
Ibara as well is less tricky with long range alpha and good dodges imo
Jump beta as well for beamer generalists like redku, all might, bakugo etc.
All of these things are part of why I think compress is a jack of all trades character, he has so much going for him that can allow him to tolerate almost everything
I have been tricked by the ibara bug a few times tho
Especially against Mori
Jump beta is very useful, and into a melee to drop into alpha faster and continue steady motion
Hawks meta was his worst meta imo and it took a while longer for me to develop counterplay to it but it was possible, plus redku was very popular in that meta so compress had a pretty easy target to prey on

The simplest way I can explain it, is to use the second part of the melee as late as possible

This video has helped me an unbelievable amount, but the part about not moving before the first melee always confuses me. Isn't it after the melee that you shouldn't move?
Be on the lookout for the enemy AC-130s
No, from experience(I think) you should try to stop your motion for a miliesecond then melee, you movement will signal the cancel
No one really plays Compress, unfortunately. Even though the character is broken af
But his main disadvantage is moves that are not projectiles
He only has 1 offensive attack
His marbles bounce differently depending on the terrain
Having 1 offensive attack doesnāt make him unplayable. Yellow deku exists.
He's much easier to use imo
Plus Compress has no knockback on alpha. So youāre guard breaking and more on a single interaction
Not to mention his burst damage is probably the best in the game
He can take down opponents really fast
His marble is a stun against GP
Compress is really dependent on levels to be seen as a "threat"
If I see a compress with barrels or boulders
I'm gonna make sure they don't get away
barrels and boulders aren't even too bad, at least not from my experiences. ive actually only been using barrels these past few days, and it's not been as bad as I expected
trucks are just kinda insane though

My beta wasn't even maxed
My biggest issue with his Beta is how unreliable it is sometimes. Like I swear it'll literally play the sound effect, and show the particles but it won't reflex/protect me from damage š. I'm pretty sure it happened here at some point with Ochacars

At first I thought it was only possibly at specific angles, but it's been happening to me on flat surfaces recently too
I think he's the good kind of broken, he doesn't dominate because his skill curve is steep enough to stomp out bad players who overexert resources or don't perform well with his projectiles
It makes him a very rewarding pick when you know how to play him and maximize his value
Personally I think the only braindead thing about him involves his GP stun, which I do think he needs in some form to be as strong as he is
And even in that situation, it rewards good aim with a slightly unorthodox projectile with an arc and falloff
I've said this in different places but I'll say it here, I do wish the opponent could slightly influence their direction when they get staggered by trucks to make it more skill based, enough to maybe change how you aim after 2 alphas

Whenever Compress' air melee is extremely close to the ground, its animation is sped up. Because of this, I think it allows you to get two hits in
So far, I've done it twice intentionally on a slanted surface, and once on a flat one

I don't think it's necessarily sped up, I think the game thinks you're still in an aerial state while carrying it over with your jump melee
It's been a while since I've gotten to play the game so I'm not entirely sure if this works on other characters, maybe characters like overhaul can do something similar since they have a similar arc to their hit box and the position of the character might have more to do with why they're not in a grounded state once the jump melee is applied
Actually now that I think about it again, I've had similar findings with deku air melee being used before you land on the ground and blackwhip
It felt like it sped up the animation of blackwhip significantly but I wasn't too sure, but I do think it's a universal mechanic every character shares
In this case it's definitely not visual, it allows you to create jump melee strings that you normally wouldn't be able to perform otherwise

Tbh Iāve never had a problem hitting the trucks so itās kinda hard to think about it and talk about it verbally without knowing the problem

Compress' Alpha has three values, the marble itself which deals five damage, the object (truck) which deals 70, and the shockwave (explosion) which deals 30
I've always hated how complex his Alpha is š
From point blank range, it only hits the marble and truck it seems
And only at very specific distances/angles does the shockwave hit

Even if used directly facing down, Compress' Gamma must stay in it's marble form for a small amount of time. So when it's used against a ledge as you did, it's forced to come out after it's marble duration time, despite you being in the air
