With all these characters out here thats crazy work
Momo's alpha is too valuable for me to stay in the back lines and have my main focus be shooting cannons, imo.
Her beta is kind of a hit or a miss. The stationary beta is awesome, but the charge is something I'd only use in certain matchups. I find that it leaves me more open than I'd like to be. Sometimes baiting a dodge roll with the shield is great, but some characters can just outright punish her for using the charge.

I find Momo’s Beta to be especially effective against Assault Ochaco. Once you break her guard or put her in a tight spot, they almost always result to their spinning beta and Momo’s shield puts it to a complete stop. Then they only have 2 options to be accounted for.
^ it's also the perfect counter to tech Todoroki and rapid all might, kinda.
You can hit rapid All Might twice with your beta while he's armoured from his alpha.
I swear they don't even care about getting hit, they just wanna ora ora ora. 😭
Everytime I try that they dodge and suplex me lol. I guess I need to start the charge closer to them.
They know it has no knockdown from most attacks so they're normally trying to do a war of attrition of "I can kill you faster than you can kill me"
You don't have to charge, you can stop short when they're about to jump and begin swinging your alpha to stun them.

Best strategy is just ending the move early; you can't really cancel it

Momo has no fancy tricks for animation cancelling on any of her moves.
For Momo's beta you can also jump in front of it as it's being placed down, which isn't a cancel but is also useful ig

You can’t really cancel it, but by ending the beta early you can bait out dodges from opponents and punish them for it. It’s like abusing the move’s predictability against them.

Honestly, there was no real reason for the devs to make Iron Fist so... Mediocre.
Embrittlement
- 10% Defense Down.
- Makes EVERYONE deal more damage to the target. Allies and enemies make the victim(s) suffer.
- No cooldown; can be applied to multiple targets quickly.
- 15 Second Duration at level 11
Iron Fist
- 5% Attack Up (Self).
- Only benefits the user.
- Cooldown based melee; at levels 10/11, has a 13/10 second cooldown but this means you need to personally reactivate it at the right moment.
- 10 Second Duration always, so it at least allows R/SR Outfits to utilize it (like once a minute or so).
The worst part is that Iron Fist is Strike Hero orientated; it is competing for usage (in my opinion) one of the most contested special tuning skill types of all.
It outclasses anti-status perks and some of the weakest perks obviously... But it's also competing with some insane perks too like Kota Finder, Crushing PU Charge, PU Intensified, Will Power and Trance Blow.

It's unfortunate, but Momo just isn't the type of character who has the luxury of throwing away special tuning for a very lukewarm reward.
Come to think of it, is there even a reason for ANY character to run this perk?

I had planned to either roll if I saw shield, or run back into my cannon to put you into a temporary knockdown if you attempted to chase that hard

You can't trust it to even exist as a wall half the time since it may just poof out of existence without an animation
Yea the shield not appearing is just another problem with the shield since it still functions as normal while running; your only visual cue at that point is Momo's hand positioning + the lack of sprint clouds.
I made a whole compilation of those moments..
But the invisible shield was new to me
If anything, I was more chasing hard at the start because I had rapid cards and simply didn't want to hold onto them in case they're useful for the rest of the match.
Honestly, I trust Momo's beta less than any other move in the game

Quick tip for making the beta function a bit better; rapidly adjust your movement left and right so the game has to update the direction you're running, and hopefully continue hitting people.
Running in a straight line is no longer reliable to make the beta function

And then when they do, they say "oh nerf her, she's still really strong." when the main talking point is people standing still in an area and getting too close to her.
"Nerf Momo, I shouldn't have been destroyed for my bad decisions!"
The decision:
Which our downfall was when they gave us that random buff to cannons which GENUINELY fueled so much hate
We would've probably been fine but they went "mmm, lets make her cannons untouchable."
The only game changing buffs were the range and durability, but the devs only seem to have failed basic counting
1, 10, 100
Buff Momo's range from 10 to 100, and buff the cannon durability from 1 hit to 100 hits
^ I'd say the buff to the cannon's health was insane since now she can place her cannons in Shigaraki destruction and be fine, and Tsuyu players just can't do anything to destroy them.
If anything, Momo's cannons are durable enough to actually soak Assault Ochaco's alpha projectile
And STILL fire
Like wut we just didn't want Shoto special action being enough to break the cannons

My favorite trick is still placing down a beta, and aiming the cannons into it. People love jumping into your shield for some reason

Using Momo's beta as a means of triggering the cannonball explosion is a nice strategy, but then I'd need to trust the shield to not despawn
Or wanting to trap someone inside of a building failing because my shield decided it can't be placed there
I mainly meant as a way to shield the cannon, so they don't know which way its aimed. One of my recent clips of it.
I'm talking about the strength of the canons, that they are stronger than her shield
Oh, blocking the visual of the cannon. Not a bad idea, but most people are reactionary to the cannon sound.
Only time the cannons could be argued to be weaker was pre-nerf beta
That's what I'll disagree on, I swear they become tone deaf the second they hear the shield go down.

Well, odds are nobody is ever going to level the beta to 9 to make it have the good durability

It was more of the fact that Momo and her allies were treated as "enemies" by the shield so they didn't have increased damage to break it
Now, Momo is more likely to accidentally bust her shield with cannonfire or can instantly break her stationary beta by running through with her 2nd beta shield
Same sort of situation with like Shoto's ice walls or Cementoss' cement; they can break their objects with like a single air melee or something
Which being honest I do like the change to shield that lets allies break them.
So it's easier to get out of corners/places if you need to rapidly escape

The modern alpha is what it should've always been. Having to jump to even get a controlled direction was irritating

They likely didn't include it for balance reasons considering they slapped like 8 to 10 ammo on it
and the game never really had as much reason for you to look into the sky since only like Iida could really "fly"

Casual Combat was made during a time of not having Yukata Momo, and also no layered tuning. I swapped to using the Fancy Fantasy for a good while until I saw Fixer's potential.

If anything, I value just utilizing Momo's strongest traits to their fullest potential rather than trying to give her something she just lacks.
Wall Runner and Space Hop/Spiraling Leap can only do so much to bridge the mobility disparity between literally everything else.
These are the main 2 I have.
I'm surprised you don't use yukata fancy or dangerous, with those good regular tunings

Yukata Dangerous would've been what I ran instead of Casual Combat if I had access to it at the time.
Spiraling leap is my fave tuning in the game
It's basically the same special tuning synergy, except the normal tuning isn't garbage (and also I was more naive and everyone was trying to understand tuning more).

You take a tiny bit of DMG and you can basically heal your allies by about a third of their health or shield for free
He would be best support imo
Considering the amount of potions Momo has access to, it can help turn the bad special action rolls into mini team heals

And I wouldn't need to waste a full heal if they're only trying to storm stall out, just the little assistance can go a long way
And it's useful in scenarios where you're the one stuck in storm

Yeah, full heals and small potions heal about 10% more.
It's probably the weakest of the special role abilities
Nah I think the Rapid effect is the weakest; only becomes noticeable on a triple rapid team.

Wall runner is one of those practice things and you just got to have the natural skill to make it work
Melee mashing; walk off a ledge while trying to use your ground melee and then rapidly mash the melee button once you leave the ground.
I feel like there is hidden tech on ledges with combos that has not been explored yet .

Overhaul has one of the strongest air melees with good enough horizontal air movement and low vertical height.

Momo's air melee by comparison is too slow to chain it into itself, and it hard knockdowns.

Yup i have seen an overhaul just melee jump melee jump and i couldn't even catch up to him
Oh no no, it was a big joke in S1, where you could easily fly with her melee if you had a blue card equipped
For melee mashing, if the character's intial part of their jab 1 doesn't have enough movement it'll be hard to actually move around like I was doing for Overhaul
Present mic for example struggles a LOT with melee mashing since he only moves forward after raising up his leg, which doesn't happen in that animation.

I mean this is hard question to answer. She excels in both areas really well..
(Up/Close, Long/Mid Range
3 things I think you should take into consideration and some factors.
Are
•Where you land at on the map you are playing on
•Who your teammates are playing as
•What your playstyle is
•The characters you are up against
•As well as setting up high ground to assist your teammates and take advantage of other fights (aka 3rd partying)
Personally, I play up close with high sense and I do sometimes take a chill pill and get high ground to assist my teammates from afar with heals. But more than often I am brawling
I did 6 points lol , just really the type of map,teammate characters they choose, and your playstyle. If you are playing low sense maybe up close up isn't the best option .
Momo is a reactionary character; she isn't going to be the one choosing the encounters due to her low mobility overall. She has tools to handle close quarters and long range, but suffers tremendously in the middle-range, vertical encounters.
I would say a lot of your positioning should take into account your allies.
- For slower or more vulnerable allies who need proper positioning, Momo can handle the front to ward off threats for a bit or serve as a distraction/combo setter.
- For faster characters who have a lot of enemy aggro, Momo specializes in using cannonfire to help punish and eliminate threats quickly.
unranked go for fights as much as you want
ranked go for fights as much as you want, just have an escape route and/or good position and game sense to know what fights you'll win
customs/high level gameplay play passively
...Why mention unranked/ranked as if the playstyle varied? Both of them require you to have an escape route.
distance doesnt really matter you can go for gamma spam or start boxing
there is nothing to lose in unranked (could say the same for ranked also) but i think new momo's should use it for warmup or improving at fighting
Well anyway, if you have a friend or somebody you pair up with often... Figure out what their character has that compliments or clashes with Momo, and then you can decide your position in fights off of that to an extent
For example, if my ally is running Assault Kirishima, I will generally box the enemy and then let them come in for the combo finisher, whether it be a beta or gamma.
If he is under attack or dueling a fellow close quarters character, I'll provide cannonfire at/around my ally to make it harder for the enemy to approach.

Or in the case of my ally being Strike Shigaraki, I will actually just "drop" the combo after staggering the enemy for a bit and let the alphas/betas pile on damage
If your ally is Cementoss for some reason, you basically can't do much of anything without him getting in everybody's way
So you can only really sit back and cannon at the spots the enemy is boxed around

as a momo you can choose to cannon spam but you should be stunlocking to help the cementoss land alphas
That's if they don't obscure your movements to the point you can reach the enemy
Slow alphing, then slow meleeing an enemy whilst a teammate is landing attacks with no knockdown is PEAK momo
this basically but with cementoss
no need to melee just keep them in stunlock
I don't really play often or at all with Cementoss allies in the first place, it's mostly just a negative experience.
I love doing it with assault all might and strike shigi
i have 0 problems with cementoss or synergy with any other character
just move around cementoss' pillars
wall runner nullifies any inconvience and personally they give you free cover if they alpha, and its something to wall run on and propel yourself forward somewhere

It was fixed at the start of this season
At first, yes. However, the devs finally realized their mistake and fixed all "objects" that attack not receiving the tuning buffs from alpha/beta/gamma attack power+
So this change also kicked in for the likes of Kurogiri's gamma, since it's the shadow orb that launches the moves.
That is an interesting Fixer build; has all of the gamma attack power+. Honestly the only flaw is not having access to every single HP/GP attack power+
(and just the fact this build is actually stupid beyond comprehension with how much the stars aligned for the equips)
Even that Assault normal slot will be contributing damage real soon

When I just want one with a nerf to balance
im never forgiving bumking for nerfing momo in 2025 because of another character they horribly designed
The only buff they could give to Momo alpha to improve it is changing the interaction it has on airborne opponents who are on HP to not knock them to the floor, or make them bounce like certain moves that spike the enemy
The amount of unnecessary I frames people receive from being sent to the ground happens far too often

Besides id rather not see an influx of Momo stans who are only there because her alpha hits too hard
Come to think of it... What is the highest level of alpha attack power+? Strike Shoto, Strike Dabi and Tech Kaminari exist, but her fixer Yukata outfit can only Lvl 4 Shoto... 8 + 12 (6 + 6) for level 20, not factoring the HP or GP attack power+.

Is it because you want people to play the way you think she should be played?
If so even if that were to happen, I would play her up close all day every day! She still has her shield and canons for up close personal beefs.
The only flaw I see with her when up close is if someone is in the air already or a ranged beamer is mid range and keeping it mid range. But a good momo will see that and plan accordingly.
Her alphas are to precious to be only used as a defense to tool.(imo)
When you can legit tod someone if you have a teammate that is using a characters' ability with no knockdown value or a hard hitting ability.
I think functionality wise, Momo is in a good spot.
Her Gamma nerf was needed and so was her Alpha buff where she can now hit airborne targets
All she needs is a damage buff

Strike Denki tuning is pretty forgettable, with the normal tuning being decent. Momo's normal tuning is a great 2nd or 3rd pick across supports.
Both have abysmal special tuning, so I guess it's a matter of what you want in a play style really

His gamma is a lot like Momo's beta; if the source of damage is from the front of the explosion (or the cannonball hits his gamma directly), it will be blocked
However, explosions off of walls or behind Aizawa are fair game

Aizawa took ~425 damage, 3 from cannonballs (125 x 3 = 375) and the rest from matryshokas
And as for why he was being hurt by the cannonballs despite using gamma, Aizawa got too close for gamma to properly block the projectile.

Only one I would say is MAYBE worth tuning is the fancy variant of the base costume
Its base tuning is fine and you can get revenge rapid since wall runner isn't worth using at low levels
R/SR costumes will always be inferior, but there's nothing wrong with making a budget build in the meantime. You'll want to plan around the special tuning effects that don't matter as much level wise
Willpower, Revenge Rapid/Strike, Compression magic, Muscle Form and Embrittlement are a few decent examples of functional tuning at 5 and below
Just be wary of burning up character data for characters you don't own if you do make a budget build
The black chips, unlock keys and the upgrade tokens are relatively expendable compared to data for characters you're missing
Parallel World Momo has a good selection of builds to work with, though Villain and Fantasy are the best 2.
I like Fancy personally because you can run Divine protection to nab boxes fast, and crushing PU charge to get a second wind in case I get jumped
I would say Dangerous is also good because you can have Wall Runner and Divine Protection, I feel like Wall Runner would still be useful at level 10 and the costume also has a good number of strike slots
All of those start of battle tunings last like 12 minutes or something at level 10
Even if level 11 is better I think that's still okay tbh

it only runs out if the match reeeally drags on

My theory is that the devs did a horrible job at connecting the terrain together at the separation of the various surfaces
So when he starts his gamma, he is starting it on that grey strip and when he reaches the dark-gray bricks, he has hit the "end" of the walkway

Momo holds up against endos skillset pretty well because of her shield. But... the big But I'm pretty sure within a few weeks she gonna struggle. (This is with wall runner+ nejire leap on momo) experience
Endeavor's only real threatening move is that beta tornado; Momo's beta counters the alpha and the gamma if she can directly ram the fireball with the shield to delete it.
If anything, Endeavor should be terrified of being caught by Momo since she can just swat him back to the floor with an alpha, and he really doesn't have options to get away fast enough.

I think for her builds its either you fully commit to mobility and having tunings that can help you move freely or fully commit to strats like camping or storm stalling, i wouldn't know tbh since i dont do the latter

Never felt harder disrespect. Literally said "wait your turn." But I didn't want to just give him Kota for free but I was tied up on indecision

I've been tempted by Divine protection but normally I try to run warp heal, just for the amount of times I get knocked into storm, so I can at least provide support to my team while making my way back.
Even though I'm known for my full heal luck, it's nice to have a bit of excess support outside of that, especially with teammates who never want to stick near me
For me it really depends on what stage of the match it is-
If it's like early game I'll attack them anyway since if a Monoma is just sitting there on Kota it's likely he doesn't have levels, let alone a leveled up gamma.
If it's later on in the game however... I'll avoid them unless they're in a building where I can block exits and corner them/read their wakeup with Alpha or Beta

Depending on what the other tuning slot is, I ran that tuning for a bit but ran it with wall runner, since her Yukata dangerous allowed it. Though I personally think Kurogiri is a lot better for healing, since it heals so much for big blues, but for budget builds it's still solid.
Unless you had/have the issue that I had where 70% of the inventory just ends up being full heals, then go all in, absolutely. Sadly it doesn't stack blue and green team heals
Not sure if it’s a new bug or my internet being weird, but for some reason I noticed that if I place my cannons too fast, the third one sometimes just locks me in place and I can’t even dodge roll out of it or press any other buttons, until the cannon despawns on its own. Though I can't really tell, since it only happens maybe once every 4 or 5-ish games and usually only lasts for a game or two, then goes back to normal.
Also the only clip I recently got of it, if anyone else has experienced it before;
Or at the very least, I only started getting it a whole lot more, ever since assault endeavor was added.

Casually dumping out ~200 damage cannonballs during a strike card with the Matryshokas chipping for MORE than her alpha at level 9...
On the right clip, you can see Froppy take 3 Matryshokas at 76 damage EACH.

Her alpha is a blunt weapon making a projectile, which sets up for combos and does decent damage. Beta simply "ends" combos and knocks the enemy back
all in on gamma when possible
i'd only go for alpha if you have an extra purple slot for tech denki
although thats mainly for the small reload buff rather than the damage
since momo's alpha is moreso valuable for its stun and pushback over dealing damage

Cannons do 250 DP and alpha does 175 DP. 1 doll can hit the enemy without disrupting your ability to hit a 2nd cannonball

It's actually pretty good to avoid grounded attacks mainly strike shiggy
You could've set a cannon and fired it straight down/at Shoto
Heck, the cannon's buff to durability actually lets it beat out projectiles that don't pierce by soaking them
His gamma would have gone through and killed me regardless
I didn't use gamma at first because I tried to jump over the ice wall, but that's when I remembered that the collision box is actually larger than the visual
Also another reason why I didn't use gamma was because he was at the exit so he would have just left and waited for me outside and come back in and use gamma after the cannon fire was over (he actually did go outside to do that but since I didn't use gamma right away he came back in and used gamma)
I'd say compress suffered the most, since his main skill got hurt.
Same with assault all might since the splash has down power too.
Though not sure how it'll play out

Honestly I don't mind the matryshoka dolls having DP now; their launch angle can push the enemy back into a dangerous position
You can see at the 12 second mark how Endeavor is denied the ability to escape after he gets hit back to me by a doll
