My series X has started having a burning/overheating type of smell even though its in an open-spaced area, the fan is pretty good with no humming..ect- would anyone know if this is pretty normal for an series X?

I had only started occurring today after changing the extension cable due to a fire earlier in which i brought i brand new surge protector but I dont think this is an underlaying power issue.

That doesn't sound normal to me, but the console will notify you if it is overheating. So therefore, you can probably assume it isn't. Are you absolutely sure the Xbox is the source of the smell?

Sometimes I find that I get that kind of smell when there's been dust build up on something that gets warm and then... well, it kinda cooks the dust. Gross, but harmless.

Yes, I had put my nose near the top vent (near the fan) to double make sure its coming from the XBX as due to esrlier via extension cable but its not as a strong smell

is the console newish

#

its more likely the smell of new plastic then anything burning, If the console is over heating it will warn you and switch off.

ah fair enough but yeah i wouldnt worry to much unless you get an error that tells you its over heating.

#

and if that happens then console will need to be sent to microsoft for repair.

It makes it really obvious when the console overheats.

Maybe that helps you worry less?
