Hi guys, somewhat odd request, can anybody with a model 1984 Xbox wireless headset check something for me?

First, make sure you have the right model. If you still have the box, look at the bottom near the barcode, and make sure it says MODEL 1984. If you do not have the box, you can carefully peel back the earcuffs (they can be put back) and see what the model number is.

After that, connect it to your Xbox, and go to the accessories app. Check what the firmware version is and let me know. After that, connect it wirelessly to your PC. Go to Settings -> System -> Sound and click on the headset's arrow. Tell me what icon shows up (is it a headset, speaker, or something else)
