I gameshared for xbox game pass, but for some reason i don't get access to xbox live unless i keep their account open simultaneously in the background Is this a normal thing that has to be done or have i done the gameshare wrong?

The account of the family member that lives with you must be signed in in order to game share. (unless they make that console their home console, if I recall correctly)
