#can't install anything suddenly

I was using game pass to install COD and had been playing it just fine for a few months but now all of a sudden, I can't modify COD or install any other game. It keeps telling me to run gaming services repair tool, but running that it instantly cancels itself. I had noticed that Windows Update was stopped and I could not start the service because access was denied. I ran regedit as localsystem to get access back to Windows update registries but even after that, starting to start the Windows update service just says the service was unresponsive and couldn't be started. Not sure if this is related to install issues with Xbox.
