So I got a new Xbox Series X today and while trying to setup, it either gets stuck on 40-50% Preparing Console or just gives an error. I've tried power cycles, troubleshooting bootup, resetting the console and even switching power lead incase that was the issue... But nothing

@wicked dagger Thanks for posting! Please remember, support here is volunteer-based and not official. Be patient after posting, and don’t spam or ask in other channels.
If your issue is about accounts, billing, contact Xbox Support directly.
If your issue is related to an Enforcement action, no one here can help.

To help us help you, make sure to answer:

  • What did you try to do and what happened? (Be specific—mention your Xbox model, PC version, Insider ring, or anything relevant.)
  • **What have you tried to do to fix it already? **(List everything you’ve done to fix it.)
  • Have you searched the error code or for similar problems? (Tell us what you found.)

If you don’t answer these, you might not get a response.

I also have searched the error code already

Update: it seems to be going up 2% every so often... The timing of the increase is completely random... Still stuck at 58% currently

#

now the light on the console just started flashing then it shut itself off again...

Is it a new console or second hand?
If it's new and it seems to have a defect, you should be able to return it through the warranty and request a new one.

The support page recommends doing an offline system update, have you tried that?

Then if it doesn't seem to work yeah, I would still recommend returning it with the warranty and getting a new one.

Unfortunate, but sometimes issues can happen. It's not a common thing though.

Sure, because when an issue happens, people are bound to post about it. But that's a far cry from an issue being common.
