My controller is… Violently drifting downward in the menu, it’s to the point that I can only access games by spamming buttons until I get into the store, and looking them up then launching them from there. But when I’m actually in a game, or a secondary menu I don’t have any drift at all. Does anyone know what’s going on with my controller/xbox and how I can fix it? It started happening when my Xbox glitched a bit as I was opening the side menu while playing a game if that helps.

I’ve already reset my controller and Xbox, and cleaned my controller joysticks with a cotton swap and rubbing alcohol. I can’t access the settings due to my drift so that’s out of the question
you will need to replace the controller
What’s the reasoning behind that?
Dirt and/or damaged
the sticks are like a car tire they wear down over time.
Or get damaged.
But if it’s damaged then why isn’t it happening outside the main menu?
because the controller can only move when there is something to select. so your only see the drift in certain places
Best way to test drift is in the accessories app in the test mode. If your controller picks up input with out you touching it or Violently shows actions then that is drift.
