Xbox PC party chat not transmitting mic inputs

Although the game bar is picking up my microphone, and my headset works fine it doesn't send my speech through to the party. My friends say I'm in "game chat" which I thought was only possible on the console, that could be the solution but I dont know how to change it

I have already tried ruling out my microphone, which is not the issue as discord works fine as a replacement. I've tried restarting gamebar and my computer as well

go to the settings on he Xbox app itself, make sure your input device is set to the mic your pc has connected to it, also check your pc setings that the input device is set to the right mic, and that your sound output as the Xbox app's volume turned up specifically

i dont know whats going on, I did what you said and it worked for like 3 seconds then it went back to not picking my voice up

1. Everything works when I host the party, my friends can hear me and its fine. The moment I join someone elses party I can now no longer hear them and they cant hear me

2. My buddy said it's because I'm in game chat? Not sure how to fix that, but thats his idea
