@tawdry osprey Thanks for posting! Please remember, support here is volunteer-based and not official. Be patient after posting, and don’t spam or ask in other channels.
If your issue is about accounts, billing, contact Xbox Support directly.
If your issue is related to an Enforcement action, no one here can help.
To help us help you, make sure to answer:
- What did you try to do and what happened? (Be specific—mention your Xbox model, PC version, Insider ring, or anything relevant.)
- **What have you tried to do to fix it already? **(List everything you’ve done to fix it.)
- Have you searched the error code or for similar problems? (Tell us what you found.)
If you don’t answer these, you might not get a response.
- tried to record/clip using xbox gamebar and it gave me an error: "There was a problem with background recording. Try again in a little while"
- Background recordings on, Game mode on, I reinstalled the whole xbox app, restarted my pc everytime I tried a fix, Resetted it through the advanced options.
- I searched and nothing could fix it.
Do you still need help?
I fixed this for myself when I experienced the same problem
Took me 2 minutes to figure it out
It’s because Xbox Game Bar saves background recordings in the Captures folder
Once you get 50 clips in there
It won’t let you save any more recordings
You have to delete all of your clips from the Captures folder
Then it will work again
Check the Captures folder like I said
Empty it
Make sure the folder is empty
It’s on your OS drive
In videos folder
If the folder has anything inside besides gamebar clips
It breaks and refuses to work
There’s also a weird invisible limit of 50 clips
In case you deleted the Captures folder
Recreate it and it will send clips in there
You have to do it on the OS drive partition, inside user:your Microsoft account’s name:videos
If there isn’t a Captures folder in there, create one
Name it “Captures”
what does this have to do with background recording
