@grave raptor Thanks for posting! Please remember, support here is volunteer-based and not official. Be patient after posting, and don’t spam or ask in other channels.
If your issue is about accounts, billing, contact Xbox Support directly.
If your issue is related to an Enforcement action, no one here can help.
To help us help you, make sure to answer:
- What did you try to do and what happened? (Be specific—mention your Xbox model, PC version, Insider ring, or anything relevant.)
- **What have you tried to do to fix it already? **(List everything you’ve done to fix it.)
- Have you searched the error code or for similar problems? (Tell us what you found.)
If you don’t answer these, you might not get a response.
If you run a speed test on say a PC and then run a speed test on your xbox and compare them.
I don’t have a pc
I used a PC as an example it could be any device connected to the same network. You mentioned your download speed that could just be your download speed, What speed are you expecting you havent given any info on why thats an issue
Ah I see now, my brothers switch downloads games and operates overall way quicker than my Xbox and I’m expecting my Xbox to update a 41gb update on snowrunner in less than an hour or so
Right but what speed does your brother get? You need to run a network test on your home network to work out if its the xbox or the network. Maybe your ISP is having issues could be 101 reasons
I’m not too sure how quickly it downloads but my Xbox used to never download this slow
Like 5 months ago it would update that 41gb in no time
okay so you need to do what i mentioned if you run a speed test on your xbox and then a other device connected to the same network and compare them
I did a detailed network test thingy and here are the results
download speed
0.82 mbps
Upload speed
0.39 mbps
Packet loss
21%
MTU
1480
Latency
91 Ms
Wireless strength
100%
Ok
okay now run a speed test on a other device connected to the same netwok and compare them if they are roughly the same then your network is just slow and you need to talk to your ISP or maybe thats just the speed you pay for.
If on the other device the speed is greatly increased you know its an xbox issue and can troubleshoot that
Would I be able to a speed test on my phone?
any device that connected to the same network
Ok
just open up your browser and go to a speed test such as (https://www.speedtest.net/). If your going to use your phone make sure its connected to your wifi when you run the test and not your cellar data
Ok sounds good
My phone is doing 227mbps
I did another one on another site, upload speed is 222 Mbps and latency is 41 Ms
My internet is a high level package and I can run “powerful” games on my phone no problem (iPhone 12)
okay then it isn't an issue with your ISP looking at that test from your xbox the packet loss is quite high is your router on a different floor in your home to your xbox?
Same level but it’s in a different room
Has been in the same location for the past 4 years
Before that I did have the router in the same room as my Xbox and it was some good connection but I hadn’t had any problems until december 2024
Things like walls, fridges headsets Bluetooth microwaves can interfere with the Wifi connection too your xbox.
I would advise to try a wired connection by moving your xbox to test to see if that helps with the speed. Or you could maybe look at a wifi booster or Network line that would let you use a wired connection in a other room.
You could also try putting your xbox into DMZ on your router but I would advise to talk to your ISP about that if your unsure what that is.
A other option would be to Change DNS settings to google or Cloudfare on your xbox
A month ago I did have my Xbox in the living room (where the router is) and tbh it didn’t really have an increase in performance. I was still lagging in games and update speed was only slightly faster than it was before
Did you connect it wired?
no
anyhow that was one out of quite a few options i mentioned. For what ever reason your xbox is getting a slow speed you will need to look into your network to look at why thats happening
I’ll take a look at DNS, see how that improves
If not I’ll tough it out and buy a series S
Probably about time to upgrade it is going to be 10 years old next year
Ok
So what exactly does DNS do
I would google that
Ok
Should I put in the google or the cloudfare?
you can try either
8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 is google
1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 is Cloudflare
the first number is the primary and the second number is the Secondary
I did the google
Testing the connection speed
Uhhh the performance is way worse
0.12 Mbps and upload speed is not available
Try a wired connection
Yeah probably should
@naive stump I did some screwing around with the settings, got it up to 4 Mbps for download speed and 5 Mbps for upload speed, it’s good enough for me until I can find a better solution
