My Xbox one is updating a 41gb update at an alarmingly slow rate (500kb-1.5mb) and it’s driving be insane, I’ve put my Xbox into the setting where it uses overall more power and that’s done nothing, and I ain’t got the money for a series s or x.

If you run a speed test on say a PC and then run a speed test on your xbox and compare them.

I used a PC as an example it could be any device connected to the same network. You mentioned your download speed that could just be your download speed, What speed are you expecting you havent given any info on why thats an issue

Right but what speed does your brother get? You need to run a network test on your home network to work out if its the xbox or the network. Maybe your ISP is having issues could be 101 reasons

Like 5 months ago it would update that 41gb in no time

okay so you need to do what i mentioned if you run a speed test on your xbox and then a other device connected to the same network and compare them

I did a detailed network test thingy and here are the results
download speed
0.82 mbps

Upload speed
0.39 mbps

Packet loss
21%

MTU
1480

Latency
91 Ms

Wireless strength
100%

okay now run a speed test on a other device connected to the same netwok and compare them if they are roughly the same then your network is just slow and you need to talk to your ISP or maybe thats just the speed you pay for.

If on the other device the speed is greatly increased you know its an xbox issue and can troubleshoot that

any device that connected to the same network

grave raptor
#

Ok

naive stump
#

just open up your browser and go to a speed test such as (https://www.speedtest.net/). If your going to use your phone make sure its connected to your wifi when you run the test and not your cellar data

grave raptor
#

Ok sounds good

grave raptor
#

I did another one on another site, upload speed is 222 Mbps and latency is 41 Ms

#

My internet is a high level package and I can run “powerful” games on my phone no problem (iPhone 12)

Has been in the same location for the past 4 years

#

Before that I did have the router in the same room as my Xbox and it was some good connection but I hadn’t had any problems until december 2024

Things like walls, fridges headsets Bluetooth microwaves can interfere with the Wifi connection too your xbox.

I would advise to try a wired connection by moving your xbox to test to see if that helps with the speed. Or you could maybe look at a wifi booster or Network line that would let you use a wired connection in a other room.

You could also try putting your xbox into DMZ on your router but I would advise to talk to your ISP about that if your unsure what that is.

A other option would be to Change DNS settings to google or Cloudfare on your xbox

Did you connect it wired?

grave raptor
#

no

naive stump
#

anyhow that was one out of quite a few options i mentioned. For what ever reason your xbox is getting a slow speed you will need to look into your network to look at why thats happening

grave raptor
#

I’ll take a look at DNS, see how that improves

#

If not I’ll tough it out and buy a series S

#

Probably about time to upgrade it is going to be 10 years old next year

grave raptor
#

Ok

naive stump
#

I would google that

grave raptor
#

Ok

grave raptor
naive stump
#

you can try either

#

8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 is google
1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 is Cloudflare
the first number is the primary and the second number is the Secondary

Testing the connection speed

#

Uhhh the performance is way worse

#

0.12 Mbps and upload speed is not available

modest vessel
#

Try a wired connection

@naive stump I did some screwing around with the settings, got it up to 4 Mbps for download speed and 5 Mbps for upload speed, it’s good enough for me until I can find a better solution
