#Xbox One powers on with a black screen after the logo

Hi there! I was playing Xbox One last night and later shut it down. I shut down the console from the settings menu instead of using the controller. After an update months ago, the shutdown behaviour turned to sleep instead of a complete shutdown. Hence, I follow this method to power off the console.

But strangely, instead of a shutdown, it went to sleep and I heard a loud noise from the fan. I turned the console on and saw a black screen.

I held the power button for 7 seconds to shut it down and then powered on. I see the logo, but after that, I see a black screen.

Before the shutdown, Rocket League was updating. I'm not sure what caused this. Past the logo, it welcomes me, but the screen is black. I can hold the X button on the controller to see the options.

#

I have unplugged the adapter overnight and will try to power on the console now to see if the black screen is gone

#

Otherwise, my option will be to open the troubleshooting menu

#

How to do it on Xbox One?

I turn my xbox on and just see “preparing console”. If I try to factory or hard reset it just does the exact same thing. I think my issue is similar

#

It just happened yesterday

#

My issue is that I cannot see the home screen

#

It's just black but powered on

#

Can you guide me on how to reach the troubleshooting menu?

#

Press and hold the sync button and eject button at the same time, and then press the power button once

#

Then keep holding both buttons for 10-15 seconds till a second beep and leave them

#

Is that correct?

#

My issue is resolved

#

It took me three attempts to show the troubleshooting menu

#

Press and hold the sync and eject buttons before pressing the power button once, and keep holding them for 15-20 seconds until another startup chime is heard

#

Leave them, and the troubleshooting menu is displayed

#

I have reset the Xbox One, keeping all games and apps

#

My settings were saved on the hard drive, and most of the settings were restored

#

Now the console is back to normal, and it also shuts down properly with the Xbox controller

#

It's safe to uncheck auto-updates for console and games, as this can lead to corrupted files sometimes

I spoke to Xbox support and they said I need to do the offline update with a windows computer but I don’t have access to one

blazing hazel
#

Wait I’m fixing it

dawn scaffold
#

Yeah

#

It took around 3-5 minutes for me in the "Preparing console" screen to reach 100%

#

After that, I reached the next screen, which said that I had a backup of settings on the hard drive, which I could choose to keep

#

And then it asked me to log in to the Microsoft account

#

The process went quickly, and I was able to keep all the games and settings data

#

It also fixed my shutdown behaviour

#

Now, it does a complete shutdown with the controller (energy saving is active)

#

Somewhere in a previous system update, there was corruption in the data, but now everything works well

dawn scaffold
#

I'm not sure what you mean, but the preparing console screen takes a couple of minutes to reset the system data

#

And also perform the latest update if there is one

Okay so I ended up restarting it enough times and the preparing console screen had a progress bar that reached 100% and I ended up choosing the language, my country etc. then it went to a black screen. I restarted again and it started to say “no signal”. After a day of trying to restart it I checked a tutorial and tried changing my HDMI cable which worked but now I’m back to the “preparing console” with no progress bar

dawn scaffold
#

If this didn't work for you, then follow the offline update instructions using a pen drive

blazing hazel
#

I have a pc but it’s not accessible to me

dawn scaffold
#

I don't know much about this since I don't have a Windows PC

#

I'm happy that the troubleshooting menu worked for me

blazing hazel
#

How

dawn scaffold
dawn scaffold
# blazing hazel How

It worked after I pressed the sync and eject buttons, and the "preparing console" screen reached 100%

#

I chose to keep all games and apps

#

I suggest you follow these steps to do the same

#

Turn on your Xbox One, and if you see a black screen after the logo, then hold the power button for 7-10 seconds until it shuts down completely

#

Unplug the adapter for 30 seconds and re-plug into the socket

#

Now, hold the sync button to the left of the disc drive and then the eject button together

#

You'll hear a sound from the eject button, and 3-5 seconds later, press the power button once

#

The console will turn on, and you'll hear a chime

#

Keep holding the sync and eject buttons for another 15-20 seconds until you hear a second chime

#

Immediately release them after the second chime, and the troubleshooting menu will appear

#

Now, be patient and make sure you don't lose power while preparing the console for a reset

#

Also, make sure that you can access an internet connection, which will be required to log in to your Microsoft account as well as update to the latest software version if there is one

@dawn scaffold I’m on troubleshoot menu

#

I went: troubleshoot > reset this Xbox > keep games and apps
