#New Xbox Series Controller not Working with Official Rechargeable Battery Pack

Hello everyone,

I have a new Xbox Series Controller that I purchased 2 months ago. A few days ago, it stopped detecting my official Xbox Rechargeable Battery Pack.

The Controller works just fine wired via a USB-C Cable, or with AA Batteries, just not Battery Packs. I've tried 2 different Packs, including a brand new one I just purchased today. I pop the same Battery Packs into an Xbox One Controller, and they work just fine, so the issue is the Xbox Series Controller and, I suspect, it's Battery Pack Contacts.

Has anyone encountered this issue before and any tips?

The Controller is still under warranty, so I can always do a repair, but my concern is I expect they'll send me back a refurb as opposed to a new Controller. I also don't want to go and buy packaging material and a box to ship it; basically spending money for their defective product.

Thanks.

  • What did you try to do and what happened? (Be specific—mention your Xbox model, PC version, Insider ring, or anything relevant.)

Depending on what battery pack you have that could be normal not all will charge in the controller

Just in case, try a different cable or fully charge the batteries with the other controller you have. Also, try another identical controller if you can.
Something similar happened to me once, and I simply left the controller charging with a good cable for much longer than I expected, and the battery revived for use in that controller.

To clarify, the issue isn't that the battery isn't charging, it's that my Xbox Series Controller won't detect it at all.

I believe I found the issue, the 4 prongs in the battery compartment that make contact with the rechargeable battery are not flush like in an Xbox One Wireless Controller, but staggered/offset, kind of like a mini-flight of stairs. So you can't just put the battery into the Controller, you have to angle it a bit, which is odd.

Can you all look at your Controllers, and are your contacts like this, or is it a defect on my Controller?

I can't put photos here, but you can watch review videos on YouTube to see how it looks aesthetically and how the battery connectors fit. If you need it, I would recommend comparing them with that of a friend who has the remote or you can put photos on #screenshots-and-photos

but I'm not sure what you mean by prongs being like a stair. they should be raised a little and have press down when contact, like a piano key.

What would be considered the appropriate place? In my country, official support is only available by phone, relegating chat to chat... also by volunteers... :/.
Microsoft also doesn't provide any other means of communication between communities for these issues. Not even in other languages (the official links and related websites give errors).
Should we, then, suggest that users resort to third-party sites to link to an image, making the process more difficult? Would this be an optimal solution so that users aren't left defenseless? It's a serious question, so we know how to appropriately respond to future situations where a photo might be necessary, as it's not a generic situation or easily explained in words, especially if it involves people from another language.

The Discord community section for screenshots and photos is in the same section as the support section, and I don't see any pins or rules that go against it.
Is it at least acceptable that if someone has problems, they can upload it to a third-party site and then post a link? In a case like this, describing the problem is more complex and won't violate privacy, nor is it self-promotion or spam.
It would be appropriate to provide an accessible and convenient way for users to receive assistance.

In most countries around the world, controller replacement services aren't offered either, as I saw yesterday.

Always trying to be constructive and beneficial to the community and trying to understand how Microsoft wants the community to be helped globally.

If you're saying the controller's pins aren't all at the same level, they're definitely not right, and they may not all make proper contact.

You can check out this publicly available video from Microsoft, which shows the controller in full.
I haven't found any other official location that shows the back of the controller and the pins.

If you find that it doesn't look right and it's under warranty, I would contact support directly and explain the situation.

I personally haven't had any issues with those pins.
