#keeps prompting to put new password but doesnt tell me anything is wrong with it

so i recently received a barely used xbox one from a family friend whos son moved out. i factory reset the system when i got hpm and i tried to sign in with my Microsoft acc. after i successfully log in, i takes me to a screen that says "add a password". so i type in my desired password and it seemingly accepts it, taking me to the screen saying "new password again". so i confirm the password by retyping it, and it just takes me bacl to the first screen without saying anything is wrong with the password. I've done it about 5 times already and i don't know if its a glitch in the system or smth else.
what do i do??
