tl;dr Series S all of my controllers’ right sticks are not working anymore. Definitely a problem with the console.
long version: I saw posts online with other people with the same issue but no solution.
Yesterday while playing Battlefield 1 operations on my Xbox Series S, the right stick suddenly stopped worked. I figured it was a bug in-game, so I quit after the match and went to the Xbox home page.
Right stick still didn’t work so I figured the controller was broken. I turned it off and switched to another controller, but its right stick wasn’t working either. Turns out all my controllers are affected so I figure it’s something with the console. I restarted it, updated OS, updated controller firmware, cleared console cache (unplugging power cord for five min from console and power strip), and nothing fixed it.
Going into controller recalibration, the Xbox shows that it is detecting the right stick just fine. It also strangely works when using the magnifier. But nothing else.
I connected one of my controllers to my computer to play a game on there and the right stick worked fine so I’m confident that it’s a problem with the console.
I don’t know what else to do other than factory reset, but I don’t know how to do that without losing my game save data. (And even so, according to others online with the same issue apparently factory reset didn’t help them, I’m still up for trying it though).
