Is there a way to connect multiple things with only 1 cable port used e.g. keyboard and mouse

I assume you mean USB A Ports since there is no USB C ports at all

You can get USB adapter but I no idea if it will work for you and I wouldnt advise it.

USB hubs work yes.

Suggest using a powered USB hub, although if it's strictly just a mouse and keyboard an unpowered one is probably fine.

You can use a USB hub without any problems, even a KVM for keyboards and screens with the console, this can be very useful if you share peripherals with a PC :). Even so, just in case, remember that you also have USB ports behind it. But for hard drives or peripherals that require a lot of power, I recommend leaving a USB port specifically dedicated to them.
