(PS: i may have fixed it as it is now fixed but please still leave me some help here whenever i need to fix it instantly again if the issue appears for me)
okay it just stops working again..
(my settings are open for capturing but its just not capturing anything)
How long has it not worked for you?
How long are clips?
Do you use an external hard drive?
What console is it and what software version do you use?
Since April there have been various recording errors, especially on external media for gameplay longer than 10 minutes.
With recent October updates in the beta program I have been able to record in 4K without any major problems on external media.
I would first check if you can record short clips with the hard drive unplugged and having the console updated with a generous storage space and short clips of 2 minutes. From there, start diagnosing with longer duration and with external media. It can also help you to use the console from a complete shutdown without letting it suspend.
The console should give you some information in addition to the generated videos.
I know the frustration but I can tell you that just yesterday I configured and uploaded a dozen videos in 4K on the Xbox Series X with beta updates, so currently the console could but I don't know how it works in other versions because the updates take time to arrive.
Also, what game(s) are you trying to record?
my bad for taking a while to respond, i usually have notifications off, but it stopped working for me like 5 days ago, and when i go to ‘record what happened’ the max is 3mins but when i press start recording it records till 10mins but eventually it does nothing
and i dont use a external harddrive and i use an xbox series x, and im not sure what you mean by software but i dont have a pc connected to it nor can i do that
whenever i just tell it to record what happened like 30s or less ago it wont do anything or catch the clip
ill start trying the options youve suggested below and ill notify you if it has helped.
currently ive tinkered with the settings, ive set it to dont capture anything back to capture from me & by games and it worked
(aswell i turned on the setting at the bottom of everything that needed onedrive so it definitely will make stuff easier)
i thank you for your help, and i may need it again 😅
just if its everything going my way rn is temporary so im not sure if things will go back to normal
aswell my xbox is all up to date!
(ps. also if you happen to know any tips to make content creation easier with preparing clips ect or just advice for xbox content creation that i may not know!)
Thank you!
okay now it just stopped working now 🙃
By software I meant the system version, if you are not an insider it should be the current version available, in my case they are beta versions.
Try to disable the One Drive option. In some versions it gave an error, although it should not affect the current ones.
Disable the recordings made by games (leave only those made by you).
In specific cases it can give some problems, although it is rare.
Try to start recording, and check for about 3 minutes if it is recording, if the time counter stops, set to 0, etc.
Recording clips (recording what has happened) should work well if you have enough space, but when you comment, indicate whether to record what is going to happen, or what has happened.
Try to do each test after completely turning off the console, also holding the console off button for a few seconds. I can tell you that when the recording issue starts to fail, it often leaves some problems that will not be solved until you completely turn off the console.
In principle, what is much more likely to fail in builds with problems (versions of the console software) is the function of recording what is going to happen. Therefore, try to test with clips, do the tests without playing, even on a standby screen with movement, so you can buy and watch the videos calmly.
If after turning off the console and testing you still have problems, I would recommend doing a factory reset of the console to avoid any residue or configuration problems or due to updates.
For content creation issues, if you use OneDrive you can quickly move to the PC without anything else, and use Clipchamp, which is free and has a multitude of varied options available, texts, cropping, transitions for FullHD content, it is an app from Microsoft. Possibly more than enough if you are not used to a specific one or do not plan to pay for it.
“Try to start recording, and check for about 3 minutes if it is recording, if the time counter stops, set to 0, etc.”
sorry but im not sure what you meant by this,
ill give some info that could make this easier, i only have around 60+ clips a few are a minute or 2 long and the rest are just 30s+ long.
i do use two console, an xbox series x and a xbox one x, xbox one x works fine with capturing clips but i dont know why it has stopped working for my xbox series x,
im not an expert with console so im sorry if its hard to help me out, i havent factory reset yet because i believe thatll be the final resort if nothing else works
i have done the first step and held the xbox button for a reset but it just turned off instantly unless thats normal, may have to redo it,
unfortunately i may have to stick with my xbox one x with the terrible quality if i cant get this fixed.
what do i unplug and replug unless you meant the console? ive tried that and nothing seemed to work sadly.
ive been trying and guys.. i mightve found the problem
the problem is the game (???)
the game is roblox, whenever im outside of a game and i go to record/capture a clip it works but whenever i get into an ACTUAL game it doesnt wanna capture/record clips
Strangely enough..
because on my xbox one x i can just capture/record games just fine when im in a actual game on roblox
but it doesnt allow it on my xbox series x for some reason, its odd..
but not to forget it used to let me actually capture/record ingame clips while in an actual roblox game on my xbox series x but
all the sudden it has stopped doing so
(only allows me to take pictures aswell)
Idk then
Oh Roblox doesn’t let you clip
I wouldn’t be surprised if Roblox suppressed the ability to clip while in a subgame, given how rampant copyright violations are
