@vernal delta Thanks for posting! Please remember, support here is volunteer-based and not official. Be patient after posting, and don’t spam or ask in other channels.
If your issue is about accounts, billing, contact Xbox Support directly.
If your issue is related to an Enforcement action, no one here can help.
To help us help you, make sure to answer:
- What did you try to do and what happened? (Be specific—mention your Xbox model, PC version, Insider ring, or anything relevant.)
- **What have you tried to do to fix it already? **(List everything you’ve done to fix it.)
- Have you searched the error code or for similar problems? (Tell us what you found.)
If you don’t answer these, you might not get a response.
@vernal delta hi there so 100 percent packet loss on ur net connection
What steps have u tried already like power cycle the console, Router/modem/broadband?.
Yes I’ve tried everything
OK have you tried a wireless connection to double check it not a ISP problem?.
Yes it still laggy wireless
Less packet loss on wireless?
No it still says 100% on setting
but still lagging like heck?. The settings has been showing false positives before (had that before myself). both giving u lack of connection online at all?.
ok name 3 games that its jittering so can check if they'res any downs on that and some other things will have a look on downdetector for that. I know some games have been jittering recently. What nettle said before the settings does have that bug of 100 percent packet will try to find a way to get it more stable at least to a resonable enjoyable play for ya though
ok Multiplayer has had jitters and zombies multiplayer has had waiting for relays problems.
https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live-status how to check status of xbox live
There all green
have you tried checking your internet speed and connection in xbox settings?
Yes it says you have high packet loss
Your packet loss is 100% this is high
that's what brought him here the packet loss bug reappeared others had that issue for over 10 years
Is there no way of getting rid of it
@vernal delta have you made sure that your router is getting enough power. this happens to me almost everyday since i have a new cat and even if the plug is even 2 millimeters out it will cause some form of issues
its a bug thats been slowly coming and out I still get it myself often which gives me more troubleshooting than it should that 100 percent tells me to do. The game jittering have to ask u though @vernal delta do u know what type of ethernet cable age is or type is example cat 5e cat 6 etc
No I don’t know what that is
I’ve juts orderd a new cable that’s long enough to go from my router straight to my Xbox
ok the cable type can be important and the lenght can have some impact as well one of the key factors @vernal granite was hinting at there.
what provider do you use? could it be a faulty router? have you tried a different device to see if the problem persists? if the problem persists i would recommend you or your parents to contact the provider for a new router
yeah sometimes theres always one that acts the fool due to priority on the router etc
But this the only with Ethernet cable
Do u think it will better with cat6 going straight from router to Xbox
what xbox are you currently using
it certainly has alot of Pros for it.
have you tried port forwarding
Beat me to it XD
The packet loss number on the network settings page on the Xbox console lies.
It almost always says 100% loss.
As long as you are actually able to connect to the internet it is fine and you can ignore that number.
That is a different issue that can be troubleshooted. Just do not get distracted by the misleading “100% loss” number it will cause you to waste time debugging a non existent problem
Load up a browser and use a site like Speedtest.net or fast.com to get your results. You’ll get up and down speeds as well as latency numbers.
Okay if I Ethernet cable from router to Xbox don’t work then I really don’t know
Do I load this up on my phone ?
No. On a computer or Xbox connected to the Ethernet.
beat me to it
Okay I will try that
Cat 5e supports up to a gigabit which is the maximum the Ethernet card in the Xbox supports anyway.
correct but alot of the cat 5e cables most have are really old.
a fresh 5e or cat6 is normally recommended to have as a troubleshoot step.
had to replace my own recently myself
I’ve juts checked and the one I’m using at the minute is a virgin media cat6 utp
Whatever that is
It is fine. (Utp means unshielded twisted pair” and is a description of the physical cable type)
What were the test results?
Just getting home now
Gotcha
The latency / ping / jitter numbers will be interesting
I assume you have a cable modem
ur on speedtest.net right?
latency is the icon that looks like <-> combined as a icon
12ms
ur image showed the latency that ruled out the broadband/router and cable issue. So looks like porting might be the next step for ya @vernal delta
How do I do that
https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/connect-network/network-ports-used-xbox-live has a how to set up port forwarding forums that will help you.
some isp also have guides on how to do that on there routers as well
I had a read through that didn’t quite understand it
OK then it might be a good idea to contact your isp about that to walk through that with you.
just be sure to have that port list to hand
https://portforward.com also can help with that.
This port stuff is baffling me
yeah thats why its best to have isp support to walk through u with it cause least that way there is a safe way to walk through its settings etc.
why are we jumping to static port forwarding lol
please provide the numbers in the "ping" line from your speedtest results eg the 5/24/345 here
12ms from his image he dm'd me
ryan can provide the 3 numbers here in chat
he was on fast as well for info
okay, cool, i just asked for the nubmers from speedtest , so lets let him provide those numbers himself.
46,53,55
oh different from before
okay, cool, so those are on the upper end for average gaming. like they are not anywhere near the 'unplayable' range (which would be like 200+ probably) but for an FPS game like CoD you'd start noticing banding/jumping/stuttering around 50 probably? (15 would be where you were smooth like butter).
The fact that they are changing and the fact that your up/down speeds are so different implies you are on a cable modem, and this might just be as good as it gets with your current setup.
I'd do another speed test later tonight - like when no one else is using your home network too. I suspect you're going to be seeing lots of different results that are out of your hands, like ISP-related
(or if you have a bunch of peopel living with you, or someone was streaming 4k netflix at the same time or something.... of course 'lots of people doing lots of things' on your network will impact your gaming)
I wouldn’t mind but I do cmg wagers and only play ranked so this is juts unplayable for me
Do u think a Ethernet cable from router to Xbox will do anything
i thought you were using an ethernet cable.
were you on wifi?
oh. see, this is important information, lmao.
boosters are terribel for gaming.
interesting thought it was a direct to router with what you was mentioning 100 percent on boosters bad for gaming
extenders / meshes / bridges / boosters / etc all add huge random latency spikes and can drop your expected bandwidth by very literally over half
so yes, absolutely, using a real ethernet cable actually connected to the network with no wifi hops in the path will be better
But tomorrow I’m getting a Ethernet long enough for it to go straight from the internet box into my Xbox
great
But there is a Ethernet cable going from booster to my Xbox currently
i see.
a real ethernet cable connected with zero boostering, wifing, powerlining, blah blah blah, is what you want.
connect to the router.
yeah that ethernet 2morrow should fix ur issue
Okay thank you for help today lads appreciate it any suggestions if it doesn’t work tomorrow
