So I unearthed my old 360 from 2011, and was trying to either make or log into a Xbox live account. Neither of them worked, so I made an account on my phone and tried to log into that on the Xbox. Still didn’t work. Keeps saying there’s something wrong with the credentials I was using, even though I checked on account.live and there was nothing. Can anyone help?

If you have 2FA on your account, you will need to sign in with an app password. If you don't have 2FA on your account, you need to have a password that is shorter than 16 characters, as that is all the 360 allowed.

Log into the Microsoft website directly, then head for security and check for 2FA. If it's off, switch that on and choose "Create an app password." Keep on that window while you're logging into your Xbox 360 account and use that app password instead of your usual password.
If the app password doesn't work, just generate a new one each time you log in, and it'll eventually work.

You should see a bunch of lowercase letters as the app password, and do not leave that page until after you login. And if it doesn't work when logging in, you can just make a new app password and try logging in again and repeat the steps. It'll eventually cave.

Create a new app password and try again. It'll do that a few times, but keep going at it and it'll eventually work.
