Ever since I bought myself a new Xbox Series X gaming console. I've never been able to receive any audio from the TV when it's plugged in. I have only been able to review audio when using a headset. I used this Xbox in my bedroom mostly where I have a normal TV. I just assumed it was because the TV was old and something might have been broken inside to make the audio not work.

I have a Series S console thats DOWN stairs in the living room plugged into a Roku Smart TV. The audio works just fine with the Series S. I decided to bring my Series X downstairs and plug it into the Roku TV where the Series S was, BUT there is no audio coming from the Xbox Series X. There's audio coming from the Roku TV menu screen, but as soon as I click on the Xbox Series X, there is zero sound until I go back into the Roku menu screen.

I will be very thankful for all the help I receive to get this problem resolved.

Ensure you have selected the correct audio format on your Xbox system settings.

Try setting it to basic stereo audio.

#

Where could I find that? @carmine shell

carmine shell
#

I’m not at my Xbox right now but it is whatever the settings section that says “audio” or “audio and video “ or “display and sound”

chrome dome
#

Would it be "General: Volume & audio output"?

#

There's "Speaker audio, Headset audio" and "Advanced: Additional options, Audio testing & details, Audio setup"

#

@carmine shell

carmine shell
#

Looks right

chrome dome
#

Speaker audio isn't even optional because it's greyed out

#

I literally can't scroll onto it.

chrome dome
#

You there? @carmine shell I'm sorry if I sound impatient.

carmine shell
#

If it is greyed out then the Xbox doesn’t think your tv has any speakers

#

There should be some troubleshooter option on the page that tells you what your tv can do

chrome dome
#

Huh? I'm not tech savvy I didn't understand a single word

carmine shell
#

Look on whatever screen you are on and see if it says anything about troubleshooting. There aren’t very many options and I’m positive it exists so just click around until you find it.

carmine shell
#

Looking at my Xbox it is the “audio testing and details” button

chrome dome
#

I'm seeing a lot of 🚫 symbols

#

@carmine shell
✅️ Your TV setup supports stereo uncompressed
🚫 Your TV setup doesn't support 5.1 uncompressed

[That's all for the Supported HDMI formats, I don't know what's going on or know how to fix any of this I'm not tech savvy]

open the guide and go into settings select general then volume & audio output under speaker audio select Stereo Uncompressed should be fixed but you may have too restart

#

If it isnt then go back too audio settings and select advanced make sure you do not have the mute speaker audio when headset is connected ticketed,

#

also make sure the HDMI cable is going from your console and directly into the tv not via a other device

chrome dome
#

Umm

#

@junior gale Do you mind if I DM you? I had to take a picture of the volume and audio output

junior gale
#

my DM are off sorry so you wont be able too. But you can upload the video/picture to a sharing site then share the link here.

chrome dome
#

Okay the HDMI audio is grayed out

#

The HDMI cords is plugged in on both ends.

junior gale
#

Do you have a headset connected or any other audio device too the console?
Are you running your Console though a other Device or is the HDMI cable going directly from the console too the TV

chrome dome
#

No, I removed the headset an hour ago before bringing the Xbox downstairs

#

Oh and this is plugged into a roku TV just a heads up

junior gale
#

you mentioned Roku TV your not connecting your consoles HDMI to a Roku TV box are you then connecting that too your tv and wanting pass though audio?

#

to be clear is it a Roku TV or are you using a Roku TV set top box?

chrome dome
#

It's a Roku TV.

#

TCL to be exact.

junior gale
#

okay

#

you may want too try changing the HDMI cable

chrome dome
#

How?

#

And why?

junior gale
#

I mean a different HDMI cable because your not getting any audio

chrome dome
#

Doesn't matter which cable it is, new, old.

junior gale
#

Have you tried a otjher HDMI port on the TV?

chrome dome
#

Like HDMI 2 and 3?

junior gale
#

yes

chrome dome
#

Yeah I have.

#

Still nothing

junior gale
#

Have you tried a factery reset of the xbox keeping your games and apps?

chrome dome
#

What's a factory reset?

junior gale
#

resets the settings too like everything was when it was out of the box but keeps your games and apps installed.

chrome dome
#

I never changed anything to begin with

junior gale
#

do a factery reset settings System Console Info Reset Keep my games and apps. This will keep everything installed so you will not lose anything but resets the console. It will remove your accounts from the console so you will need too sign back in and set up the console like it is a new console out of the box,#

#

If that does not help then either your missed something in are convo or the consoles HDMI port is brokon and would need sending too Microsoft for repir.

chrome dome
#

Yeah I'm definitely not doing that

carmine shell
#

Factory Reset + Keep APps and Games is one of hte simplest most effective troubleshooting steps out there

#

I am pretty sure it is even a pre-req to being able to get warranty service if your console turns on at all

#

well maybe not, i don't see that written down anywhere.
But it absolutely is a great way of troubleshooting audio/video/weird application behavior/etc issues

junior gale
#

this

chrome dome
#

Alright whatever I might try it

#

I only have two accounts on the series x anyways.

#

And I just checked the one s and I'm able to select the speaker audios

#

But on my Series X I don't get an option.

#

Here lemme be more clear for you

#

Xbox One S, Speaker Audio:
[HDMI audio: 7.1 uncompressed]
[Optical audio: Stereo uncompressed]

Xbox Series X, Speaker Audio:
[HDMI audio: Stereo uncompressed]

#

The series x doesn't have the optical audio it only has HDMI audio and it's set to Stereo uncompressed.

#

Yeah its missing a lot of options..

carmine shell
#

the xbox series consoles do not have an optical audio port at all, so they will not have optical optiosn in the menu

chrome dome
#

Factory reset worked.

#

I wonder if it'll fix the One S' problems?

carmine shell
#

With multiple consoles and multiple problems it is hard to keep track...

I wonder if it'll fix the One S' problems?
What problem are you referring to?

chrome dome
#

Oh for some odd reason, it played games normally, movies on tubi normally but when I put in a movie DISK in the box the only audio coming out was the music and sound effects but the talking was mute 🔇
