Can't play online games after factory reset.

This is a bit of a strange one, earlier I was trying to leave the insider program which led to a factory reset. Didn't mind it too much but now I can't seem to play online. I'm connected to the internet but once I launch a online game, like fortnite for example, in the log in screen it'll say it was unable to connect. Same goes for Cod, and other games I've tried. Is there something I'm missing? Games still load up, but can't connect to servers.

delta ring unfortunately doesn’t contain a fix i believe, unless i’m missing something..?

Delta is on a different build than GA and omega. That's the lowest ring that is. I haven't checked personally though to see if the issue is present in 2409 or not

ah okay, so i checked this morning through delta ring’s latest update, and the problem was still present. is microsoft however actually aware of the issue?

actually on the build in delta. as of this morning, when i joined the delta ring and downloaded the latest update in the delta ring, the problem was still present post update.

so it is confirmed not fixed in the delta ring

I tried multiple methods and nothing seemed to work. I'm assuming this is a weird bug on microsofts part. hopefully it'll be fixed sooner than later.

is indeed a bug that i’m not even sure microsoft is fully aware of yet, but it’s a rather serious one most definitely. only known workaround at the moment is to use a wired ethernet connection rather than wireless

Bringing @blissful flare into this thread as well. Thanks for reporting this. I'll make sure someone takes a look, although I can't promise when or if I'll be able to give a status update. I have tried this out myself and noticed that it doesn't happen with all games, but does consistently happen with a couple on my box, so if you could share the exact titles you're seeing this with that would help give more information to the investigators.

yeah it’s really strange. cloud gaming seems to work fine just certain titles have the issue

Also keep in mind that to successfully reproduce the issue you have to factory reset your console (and save your games and apps)

Good evening everyone, I went to reset my series s today to sell and I spent 3 hours with the store owner trying to solve this bug, I thought it was just with my xbox, Did you find a solution?

I tried to enter the games: Warzone III, Fortnite, World Of Tanks and Fall Guys and none of them worked but a game called "Vigor" I can enter and play normally.

Btw, when I put the internet cable in the Xbox I can enter the games normally but I can't use the cable forever.

Yep, Xbox One games should work fine. This problem seems to exclusively affect more recent games released in the Series X|S era.

The problem is generally understood now but the investigation into how to fix it correctly is underway.

They're not actually exactly the same game - you get the version best for your console via smart delivery there.

I don't have an update on fix timing yet.

There is a chance (not zero, but also not high) that if you run through factory reset again you might come out working. One way to know if you'll be broken is to, after running through initial setup, scan your wi-fi networks at home with another device (like a phone) and see if you see a network called ("DIRECT-??XBOX???") - if you do, you're in a broken state.

…i will say this…my house power went out completely and back on and off because a power company was working on something so my whole house had no power and..when it was back on my Xbox let me play games but as soon as i turn my Xbox off to go eat..the issue came back so idk what the issue could be

Yea day 3 not able too play certain games. But like Em said there is a work around plugging an Ethernet will work but like I’m sure many are also running into we can’t plug into that since it’s not accessible as easy as other may have it but also like Em Xbox is working on it so please ya let’s be patient I’m sure some game work and we can pass the time like that I have cod black ops 3 working I’m re loving the zombie days but I have a question how will we know when this is fixed

damn, i got this problem because i reset my xbox thinking i had an audio bug after moving my setup from my office to my room, just fo figure out my headset volune slider was lowered whilst moving everything. i always forget it actually has a volume on its cord. now i cant play games... silly me

You might have gotten lucky with subtle timing differences in your network configuration on boot.

I should have mentioned, there is a very small chance a reboot can repair you, but only if your network setup is not very consistent.

We’ve seen consoles not work on one network but work on another, pretty consistently, but it’s rare that it can change boot to boot on the same network. It has happened though. The problem is basically a race between the connection to WiFi and some other network interfaces on the console.

No. Ironically I think non-Insiders are going to get a fix faster than Insiders due to the mechanics of how build preview works. But I will share the likely schedule as soon as I know it.

@here If you are a non-Insider, the update with the fix should be live now! Go to Settings -> System -> Updates to initiate it manually.

You will not need to do a factory reset in this case.

If you are an Insider you may not get this fix for several days due to those being in newer build rings. If you want to force the update, you can go to the Xbox Insider Hub app and unenroll from the preview program, and then go to Settings -> System -> Updates to initiate. This will include a factory reset, but you will be fixed afterward, and then you can rejoin your Insider ring. Or you can just wait.
