#I received a gift from my friend but i cant redeem the code

My friend sent me "outer wilds echos of the eye" and after a couple hours i received i gift code from xbox, each time i try to redeem it it gives me the error "Something went wrong: Not sure what happened there. Please try again later." Im scared i did something to make it no longer compatible and id like some help with fixing it. I can redeem other codes (some old sea of thieves stuff works just fine)

My friend is in south africa and im in nambibia, but the Microsoft store uses the same currency and everything was fine (besides how long it took to see the message) up until now

Before i received the message i did try and alternate way of claiming it which failed (i assume the code was valid then, but it definitely should be now)

Nope. Gifting only works if u both are in the same country

It could be regional differences but i find it unlikely due to the reasons mentioned above
