Recovering items and using items on flash drive for Xbox 360

I recently brought a flashdrive to store my Xbox 360 games on, after transferring nearly 50gb of items to it I started playing the games on it, the next day I got on nearly half of the items on the flashdrive disappeared, important stuff like pictures, videos and music was loaded on it, despite it saying only 22gb was being used on the flashdrive it was a lie the flashdrive was still missing half the space on it, I then googled how to fix/recover items on it, so I turn the Xbox 360 off then removed it then turned it back on then off then plugged back the flashdrive. Now it's acting like the flashdrive is new and it's saying unformatted, is there a way to save the items on the flashdrive and use it at the same time?

it uses flash memory so i dont recommeend using a usb flash drive to store ur games

Is there a way to recover items on it? If you don't recommend a flash drive, what do you recommend, I'm trying to get extra space on my 360 for games?

any portable hdd is fine. they are very cheap maybe 40-60 for 2tb

to recover stuff from flash memory i dont think thats possible.
