So I have recently purchased both Call of Duty World at War and Fallout for the 360 so I could play them on the series X, but both of them wouldn’t be read by the series x, so I went to try them on the 360 and it’s giving me the message “To play this disc, put it in an Xbox 360 console” which im super confused by, any help would be greatly appreciated

UPDATE: Fallout 3 does seem to work on the 360

vestal badge

sounds like the disc are badly scratched/damage if the 360 is having issues read it. You could do the app download to install the game, and keep trying the disc to play the game.

turbid bane
#

Yea upon further inspection the cod disc is very scratched on the top but I should be able to clean it out

#

I’ve had discs that are literally cracked yet still read somehow

turbid bane
#

Yea no these discs are not working at all on my series x

crude cedar
#

I had the same issue, what fixed it for me was just buffing out the scratches on the disc, then it let me play my discs on my Series X.

turbid bane
#

That’s pretty much what I’ve been doing this entire time but they still won’t read

#

Might just be the discs themselves

#

If so then im probably returning them tomorrow

#

What’s confusing me is the “put this disc in a 360” video that it plays for whatever reason

#

Like why would it play that little video instead of the normal error message

#

That video is only supposed to show up if I put it in like a ps3 for example

rigid stream
#

if a disc can be partially read but is broken and can't be recognized then you might get a misleading error message liek that

turbid bane
#

So are the discs just broken internally or something

#

Because they both don’t seem to have any actual damage besides some scratches

rigid stream
#

The only way to know is to try them on another 360.

Either the xbox disc reader or the discs are broken...

turbid bane
#

I’m not sure what it is because fallout actually works on the 360 but not on the series x

short ether
#

Had the same problem for me when I was younger forgot how I fixed it though

turbid bane
#

This also isnt the first time this has happened to me but this the worst it’s gotten

short ether
#

Is fallout backwards compatible?

turbid bane
#

3? Yea it is

short ether
#

Oh dang I didn't know that and I have the game lmao

#

Time to start an old Era

turbid bane
#

That’s why I bought it I knew it was backwards compatible and I wanted to try it

short ether
#

Are u still having issues?

turbid bane
#

Yes

#

Been going at it for hours at this point lmao

#

If I don’t resolve it by tomorrow im returning them to GameStop

short ether
#

If I may ask is the disc's got scratches on it?

#

Ik u were talking about it earliar I just want to know now

turbid bane
#

They do

crude cedar
turbid bane
#

But its not serious scratches it’s just minor ones on the bottoms of the discs

crude cedar
#

Do you have any other Xbox 360 game disc besides those two you can try on your Series X?

short ether
#

Do u have petroleum jelly?

turbid bane
turbid bane
short ether
#

If u do(this is how I fixed scratches on my old game) rub some on the disc and then rub it back off with soft fabric

crude cedar
turbid bane
#

Is that safe?

short ether
#

Yes

crude cedar
short ether
#

Though

turbid bane
#

Exactly how much

short ether
#

A little finger full is what I use

#

So basically like a dab on ur finger will do

turbid bane
#

Alright I’ll make sure to give that a try

rigid stream
#

Do not put petroleum jelly in your Xbox Facepaw

short ether
#

Yeah what he said lmfao

#

Only on the disc

turbid bane
#

Yea yea ofc lol

crude cedar
#

lol.

turbid bane
#

Don’t wanna destroy my Xbox

short ether
#

Also does certain games work?

#

Only

rigid stream
#

Do not put vaseline on the disc that you put in teh xbox either.

Do not use petroleum jelly / vaseline / whatever on anything related to your xbox

turbid bane
#

oh wha

short ether
rigid stream
#

We aren't going to be giving people that kind of advice here, thanks

short ether
#

I did it for 12 years lmfao

rigid stream
#

that literally ruins plastics

short ether
#

10 actually

NOTE: Even though Xbox is offering controller repair kits for sale now, self-repair discussion in this server beyond linking to said kits is still not allowed. Self-repair requires a moderate level of skill and knowledge to do and any errors in doing self-repair can result in damage that is not covered under any warranty. If you have questions that are not answered by the guides linked off the controller parts pages in the store, you likely do not posses the skills or knowledge for performing the self-repair and should seek out a repair shop to perform your repair.

short ether
#

It does?

rigid stream
#

yes, that's why we aren't going to be telling people to lube their xbox

turbid bane
#

Any other substance I could use then?

#

Rubbing alcohol?

short ether
#

Well rip ig

rigid stream
#

If you want to try to polish the disc (this will not work) then you can buy a CD/DVD polishing kit on amazon. Some game stores will do it for you too - or at least they used to

short ether
#

Sorry for the inconvenience

rigid stream
#

those polishing kits are designed for when there are many many visible scratches though

turbid bane
#

Man I wish I could send pics here to show them

short ether
turbid bane
#

My Xbox is also making very concerning noises but that’s not something new I’ve had that happen before

turbid bane
elder fern
#

Only way for our people to send images.

short ether
#

Also if I may ask does the fallout game that work don't have scratches?

#

And the games that don't work have scratches?

turbid bane
#

Fallout has some but not many

#

Call of duty has considerably more but it’s still not much

#

I’ve had games with way worse scratches and they still work

crude cedar
#

That is pretty odd.

short ether
#

Yesh it is

crude cedar
#

Maybe there’s a scratch that’s deeper into the game disc maybe?

short ether
#

Might be a hardware issue or even software idk I'm just not good with that kinds of stuff lmao

turbid bane
#

Can’t send pics but the mw3 disc I have has very noticeable big scratches all around it and that one still works

#

So I have literally zero clue why these ones I just bought don’t

crude cedar
#

Might need to get your optical drive checked maybe. Could need replacing or something is just seriously wrong that that game disc.

turbid bane
#

Might be a combination of both

short ether
turbid bane
#

Since one of them actually does work on an actual 360 like I mentioned before

#

Just not on the series x for whatever reason

short ether
#

Yeah idk man did u try to look some solutions on yt thats what helped me out alot in the past?

crude cedar
#

Do you by any chance know someone who you can try that disc on their Series X?

turbid bane
#

No unfortunately

crude cedar
#

Hmmm this could be a long shot, but maybe try seeing if you can go to a repair shop or some place where they can test that disc on a series X they have.

turbid bane
#

I could see if there’s a place like that

#

Probably not though

crude cedar
#

Yeah least worth a shot.

knotty olive
#

If it’s just the 2 games having the issue and all your other discs are fine then probably just those discs are the issue. If you could do more testing with other discs it would help to rule it out. Even just movie DVDs as well to check if they read or not.

#

The optical drives in the 360 and Series are quite a lot different. Maybe the laser in series is having trouble reading it while it can to an extent on 360.

turbid bane
#

Hello good morning im trying at it again but still the same results

#

So far:
360: Fallout 3 works while world at war doesn’t read
Series X: Fallout loads as a dvd and plays a “to play this disc put it in an Xbox 360” message while world at war will isn’t read and the disc drive keeps spinning and stopping

hidden abyss
#

Is Fallout 3 even back compat? I know that most games that came out with a remastered version for XBox One aren't. I'm also pretty sure I've seen something that says Fallout 3 for 360 isn't backwards compatible.

knotty olive
#

Fallout 3 is BC

crude cedar
turbid bane
#

Yea im under the impression it’s both the discs and the drive

#

Like maybe the discs are scratched in a certain way where the 360 can pick them up but not the series x

crude cedar
#

Yeah that could be the case too.

turbid bane
#

UPDATE

FALLOUT 3 FINALLY WORKS
