The controller is a usb controller device not a keyboard. So it doesn’t just spit out “a,b,c” when you press the buttons.
To get the buttons to send regular letters for use in Windows games that do not understand you have a controller, you’d need to use the Xbox accessories app to configure it. Or the Steam controller settings page in the Steam app.
