#Sharing controller between PC and Console

Having an Xbox and a PC laptop on same desk, I wish to use one controller for both of them, of course not at the same time.

I wish to power it by cable, not by batteries.

If I use a power-only USB cable, then I can share the controller, but without audio on PC, which means I need to replug headset from the controller to PC audio jack each time I switch.

If I use a proper USB cable, I get audio on the PC, but the pairing button is disabled. Bad firmware design?
Which means the controller will work only with the PC, and won't let me switch to console by pressing pairing button twice.

I guess the only remedy would be a firmware fix from Microsoft?

Either they fix the firmware by allowing the use of pairing button while USB is connected to PC,

Or they fix the firmware by allowing bluetooth audio on PC the same way they do on Xbox.

Preferrably both should be fixed..

that isn't an issue and nothing needs fixing it working has intended. If your using a cable then the controller does not need to be wireless so that's disabled.
If you want to switch between the 2 devices pc and console on the fly then get a xbox wireless dongle for your PC.
You could use Bluetooth if your pc supports that but you would not get audio,
Console does not use Bluetooth for audio either it uses xbox wireless protocol thats better than bluetooth.

Can you list a single reason this cannot be fixed by software?

I did it does not need to be fixed because it isnt brokon its working has is should

You didn't. It's because you think it works as it should, but I don't and I listed a scenario for which it is a bug

#

You know that bluetooth headsets exists? Why would Xbox hide it behind another protocol? I get it could be of lower quality without that proprietary protocol, but doable nonetheless

i wouldnt expect something ie a controller to connect wireless when there is a cable pluged into it. If it did that would be a bad design. If I want to use wired then i use a cable for that reason i would not expect my controller to be able to connect wireless to something else.

#

the whole Bluetooth and Xbox protocol is a different story, If they wanted to use bluetooth then they could have. But they didnt they used there own protocol that does not mean it needs fixing.

It doesn't connect with power-only USB cable, it uses bluetooth in that case for both Xbox and PC, the only difference being that PC needs this accessory you mentioned, but the point is that this accessory is pure cash grab, and uneccessary electronic waste, as we could get higher latency audio (normal) compared to Xbox Wireless protocol audio

#

This is still doable by a firmware update, if Microsoft decides to do so..

#

Sales of this device seem to be huge, so I wouldn't hold my breath.
It's out of stock on microsoft.com

#

And I just read that Nintendo Switch used exactly same tactics as Microsoft here, but changed mind in one of updates

okay i didnt say otherwise. I was saying that the whole bluetooth and xbox wireless is differnt story to be able to use the pair button when a cable is connected.

#

the reason they used xbox wireless is because 1) there xbox you would use your own tech. 2) Xbox wireless was/is seen has better latency then bluetooth. Although i would expect that has changed with new versions of bluetooth,

#

the point is your saying it needs fixing it isnt broke its working has it is designed too.

If you connect via USB, it will connect via USB. If you want to use wire and connect to Xbox, connect USB via on Xbox.
