I have EarPods connected to the controller and went through the extra settings to disable the static that comes from using those earphones. However, I noticed that the sound now plays through both my earphones and tv speakers. This happens with any earphones I plug in.

you can change audio output to headset only in settings

Do be aware that Apple use there own version of the 3,5mm jack so you made find issues when using a apple headset/ EarPods

In the system settings you'll find an option to disable TV audio when headphones are connected. That will solve your other issue.

For the static, don't use EarPods.
