#Expansion Card Between Consoles

I'm thinking about upgrading to the Series X since it's on sale and some Xmas bunce is gonna cover about half of it. But I wanted to know if I can just take the Expansion Card I have in my Series S and plug it straight into the Series X.

Will it automatically recognize it and keep everything I have saved onto it there? Or will it clear everything off before the Series X can use it?

I remember with the Xbox One that, whenever you plugged an external hard drive into it, it would have to reformat the hard drive which would clear everything off of it before it could use it. I just want to make transfering my games to the new console easier.

You could also do that with USB drives on XB1 (and Series consoles). Going from one console to another should not force a format at all.
