not able to hear friends in part

I am on pc and my friend is on Xbox when I join the party he can’t hear me and I can’t hear him my mic is connected I can test it and hear myself I see his icon glow when he talks but I still can’t hear him and he can’t hear me I have checked privacy settings and that’s fine but I still can’t figure it out
