Series X:
using 4k tv + Hdmi 2.0 AVR + Xbox console.
The Xbox screen: only lists games up to 1080p @ 120 hz - for gaming.
It should display 4k @ 60 hz for gaming.
Direct connection to TV with Xbox console - up to 4k @ 60 hz for gaming is displayed.
Any ideas how to solve this?
Any trouble shooting steps or require more info, let me know.
I'm asking for a friend who has these devices.

As I said, it's not an issue with the console since the console displays 4K@60 when connecrted to the TV. Have your friend read the manual for the receiver and see what is needed to passthrough a 4K signal to the TV
