So uh.. why does do x/s optimized games need to be on external? Cause a game like black ops cold war is xbox one and series S/X but has literally no difference between the two? Plus if they have to be, why do the same games on the same usb SSD run perfect on more powerful hardware?

#

I really just don't get this as the same games run flawlessly with the same drive on pc with thousands of times the improvement than Series S/X, what's SO important that this has to be internal[edit: figurative thousands btw]

XS optimized games must be on internal storage because the storage / memory system in the Xbox is designed for that. The game devs can make assumptions on how fast data will load and how quickly they can access new data.

#

Windows based computers typically have far more ram than an Xbox, and are able to preload completely different amount of data.
Apples and oranges comparison.

So it's mostly ram and how they're designed?

Yes

I mean I get it, I do, but doesn't it just get annoying after a while?

Not really

This really just feels like a way to sell those.. seagate drive things

Install back compat games to an external hard drive, so all your internal & expansion card storage can be dedicated to XS games. An update earlier this year added settings so you can have that done automatically.

I already do that

What I'm just annoyed about as well is that call of duty if I install the unoptimized version on my Xbox one, it forceably upgrades it

I wouldn't even mind having unoptimized games, I just wanna play em
