*The only question really is with the consoles being PS5 & Series X... should the external SSD be used for PS4 Pro games which are at best 1440-1800p or should it be for Xbox one X games which are 1800-Native 4K 2160p which are currently in SSHD?

Xbox Series optimized games only work from internal storage or the special memory expansion card.
Backwards compatible games work fine from slower hard drives.
Some loading screens may be faster with an ssd.
But it doesn’t really matter.

SSHD has a small SSD block with a larger mechanical disc drive... The more a particular data set aka game is used the more likely the difference in that particular game will be negligible compared to a SATA or even nvme external SSD ... But the question is how negligible is it outside of that particular data aka game on the SSHD.
Is there any evidence or hardware logic where SSHD on a Series X is equivalent or marginal compared to a SATA SSD for Xbox One X games?
Something like RDR2 for example...
