Are you trying to install to an external hard drive or a secondary drive by any chance?
no, the error just occured randomly

It's relatively new and I don't know if it's linked up with all of our support articles yet

yes last i checked they are, what are all neccesary things that need to be updated tho? just so i know
Gaming Services is the main important one, apart from Windows updates. If all that is up to date, assuming you have Game Pass, can you try installing Halo Spartan Assault from the Xbox App first?
i tried installing it and it worked

If you go into Feedback Hub again, click on the Feedback item on the left, and then "My feedback" header on the right, it will show you any recent feedback you submitted
If you see it there, you should be able to open it again and see if there's a share option

ok, I think this is most of what's needed, but just to be safe, let's have you file 1 more feedback and I'll pass them both over to the dev who's been investigating this.
Go ahead and start a feedback for failing to install Starfield with error 0x80070490 and specify you want to record a reproduction of the issue. Once that recording has started in feedback hub, tell Starfield to start installing in Xbox App and once you hit the error with 0x80070490, you can go back to Feedback hub and submit the problem, then share the link here again π
do i specify starfield or just write games? bc none of them worked

You can specify starfield to give a specific title to match what you're trying to install in the reprodocution π
When going through to submit the feedback, do you have any of these options? I'm not sure if some (or all of these) of this is because I'm an internal employee or not π
The "Recreate my problem" portion is what I'm interested in, that you select that and then "start recording"

The important part is that you start the recording first, then try and install once, then go back to feedback hub and stop recording and submit
Make sure the include data about Game Installation is also checked

ah, ok, so the checkmarks were already checked, all good π mark it as "important functionality not working". If you want to remove the screenshots, you can (you would just click the bottom "Remove" link for image data), but make sure to leave the top diagnostic data, we need that. No other checkmarks needed, you can submit after that.

Hi Tutel, out of curiosity, have you tried rebooting your PC recently at all and tried installing after a reboot?
yes i have
still didnt work
i had to reboot my pc like 5 times bc of how many methods i tried out
Ok, figured, but wanted to double check based on a question from one of the devs
I missed there was one last request on an attempt to fix from the dev I gave this over to. Can you open an administrator command prompt window (search in the start menu for the application called "Command Prompt" without the quotes, right click it and say "Run as administrator".)
In the window that opens up, run this command (just copy and paste it):
reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppModel\StateRepositoryStatus /v AutoCheckIntegrity /t REG_DWORD /d 5
After that, reboot, and try installing a game again
