#xbox 360 slim only detects original hard drive if plugged it externally with an adaptor

i recently purchased an xbox 360 slim from a second hand shop and it worked perfectly until today.When i turned it on all the data was gone and when i went to the storage settings there was no hard drive. I plugged the hdd with an external adaptor in my pc and it showed the hdd was unallocated so i formated it with the xbox and now it only works if i use it externally. Please help me
