Hold Power and Sync at the same time to go into Safe Mode. Change your resolution from there.

You turn off your Xbox. Then when it's off you hold the power and sync button. It'll bring up a different low resolution safe mode menu. Every modern computer and console has a safe mode.

the trick you missed was if it is a Sereis X it is power + eject, it is only power + sync on the S
