#Error 0x80070002 installing PC games on Gamepass (for Epidemic)
1 messages Β· Page 1 of 1 (latest)
@umbral scroll Started a thread for you here. Are you trying to install to your system drive, or what drive are you trying to install to when you get that error?
Both and Any
and when I try to set my default drive it wont let me change, itll auto go back to C
Ive tried reinstalling game services
Ive disabled ipv6 on the network settings
Ive cleared the xbox app data/ reinstalled the app
Ive tried running
sfc /scannow
DISM /Cleanup-Image /scanHealth
DISM /Cleanup-Image /restoreHealth
Ive tried putting the .GamingRoot file in the other Drive, and tryed installing on that drive instead of C
Ok, are both of your drives internal drives, or is one an external drive?
all internal
and have either of them been used as part of another install of Windows before, either in this computer or another one, without being formatted completely?
and C drive is your Windows system drive, correct?
Yes
k, just a moment
and that is the current default drive for xbox, which it wont let me swap from for default
Ok, what I'd like you to try is this:
Go to the Microsoft Store application (we're going to ignore the Xbox app for now), and search for Halo: Spartan Assault. Try installing that from the Microsoft Store application (it's only 1GB)
Once it's finished downloading successfully, open up the start menu and search for "Installed applications"
Find Halo: Spartan Assault in that list, click the 3 dots on it's entry, and select "Move" and try moving it to your other hard drive.
If that works successfully, move it again back to your C:\ drive
we couldnt move halo
did it give you an error?
80070005
hmm
before that it asked me to delete all other apps
and asked perm to do so, I said yes
Did you say yes?
ok, cool, potential progress, you're hitting the reason why install is failing at least
but why is it failing on the C drive too?
(this is very recently learned info from us, my PC hit this about a month ago and we've been debugging it for several weeks)
well, I'm hoping that installing Halo: Spartan Assault may have helped repair that
but I wanted to try moving it back and forth first. Can you try reinstalling something from the Xbox app to the C:\ drive?
ok, just another minute
Ok, can you open up an adminstrator power shell prompt?
In it, run this command:
Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers -Name "Microsoft.GamingServices"
ok
wont let me, what do you need from it
I'll grab it from our deleted logs π
kk
Ok, so I'm going to have you remove Gaming services, reboot, and then trying moving Halo: Spartan Assault again (you should be prompted to clear the old apps again, say yes again to it, and hopefully we won't get the 0x80070005 error this time).
So run this command in the same administrator powershell:
Remove-AppxPackage -Package 'Microsoft.GamingServices_13.78.12002.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe' -AllUsers
Then reboot and after reboot, try the move again
thanks for all the help btw
np
ok will do
Great, so it finished moving to your 2nd drive?
Yes
Awesome, go ahead and move it back to your C:\ drive now, see if it prompts again about needing to delete old apps
It moved over, no prompt
ok, well hopefully that fixed it, let's see π Go ahead and open up the Xbox app and click the prompt at the bottom to install Gaming Services again
Installed it, didnt fix it
But thats def progress. Theres some incompatiblity with it
Can you set your 2nd drive as the default Xbox drive now?
And does it work if you cancel the install that was in the queue and try and install to your second drive, or does that also fail?
hmm... ok. Not sure what else it's hanging up on at the moment. We do have a new build that should be coming out soon that has at least some attempted fix up code for this situation (as I said, I hit this by reinstalling Windows and left my machine in this state for a month so we could debug what was going on, because we've seen quite a few reports of this)
If you'd be interested in trying that when we have it available and letting me know if it fixes you up or not, that'd be great. If you install the Xbox Insider Hub app from the Microsoft Store, you can enroll in the PC Gaming Insider ring and we should have a new build out to that group by probably Wednesday or Thursday next week with the fixes so far?
I didnt know I could download through microsoft store
so Ill do that for the time being.
When should I expect the patch? days, weeks?
Ill def let you know
Well, downloading games through Microsoft store is complicated π
oh, do I need to be in the windows insider program?
You do not need to be a windows insider to do the Xbox PC insider stuff
completely separate, and would only update your Gaming Services, Xbox app, and Xbox Game Bar (if we have an update for the last one, which I don't think we do)
Ok, perfect, I actually reinstalled windows a few weeks ago to get rid of that
Ok. Thanks for the help. Ill try that next week/weekend
OHHH, weird
when I install in microsoft store, it shows that its downloading in the xbox app
Yeah, like I said, complicated π
ok, ill leave it at that for now
Feel free to ping me in this thread if you see it unblocked after getting an update, and I'll try and remember to ping you when we push out the build to the insiders ring so you can check for updates in the Microsoft Store for Gaming Services π
@umbral scroll I forgot to ping you last week, but we have a fix that is in our Gaming preview flight ring for PC and is also starting to roll out to our General Audience now too. The version number is 13.80.9001.0. If you check for updates and get updated to that, you should try installing from the Xbox app again and see if that fixes up your install problems π
@night raptor Thanks for the ping π
Iβve been busy so havenβt had a chance to check it out. Iβll give it a look later this evening though
np π Hopefully it fixes you up (it fixed up my machine that I was leaving in a stuck state to test out the fix) π
@night raptor Looks like the patch worked for me π
Awesome, glad to hear it, thanks for following up! β€οΈ
