I used to happily record many game clips on xbox one X and save them to my USB device. It always worked and I always made sure to format it to the required file system... But now for some reason I assume due to an update or other issue the console capture app can no longer detect the devices. Ive tried 3 so far... I'm at a huge loss of what exactly to do. The USB ports function properly and can read external drives just fine. Except for ones configured for NTFS as required.

One thing to also mention is that media player app can still access their contents somehow. Its very bizarre.
Yeah I made sure to format the device to the file system it wants. It used to work fine, but now the app just will not detect them.
The console still seems to add the GameDVR folders to the USB when I check them on my PC. But somehow I cant record to them on the console as it no longer allows me to select them. Just not visible anymore.
Ill take some screenshots of the issue.
are they USB 3.0 though
Yes they are.
When I plug them in the xbox will as normal pick them up with a confirmation message and this is with the correct file system format too. But I can only access them via the media player app now, they are no longer treated as external storage... The Recording app in particular. Its so strange.
I sent a bug report ticket via the xbox. But that was never responded to, so I thought I try here.
they wont respond too a ticket
I not sure why it isnt working for you. But it is supported and it does work.
I really dont want to have to factory reset my console to fix whatever is going on lol but seems like thats the only option I have now...
factory reset isnt a big issue you can select the option too keep your games and apps installed
