xbox 360 hard drive not formatting

Well, my problem is the following. I recently bought an xbox 360 hard drive (storage hard drive, games and the like) but I can't format it on the xbox 360 itself. It asks for the code, I put it in, it loads the formatting screen, but in the end it doesn't format. I wanted to know if there is any solution for my problem

Okay that rules out that, could you make sure the drive works by installing a game and maybe playing a little?
