recently I've noticed my left joystick is very inconsistent when I move it up, I'm only pressing forward and nothing else yet the character moves very inconsistently, moving slower than they should be. looks to be a dead zone issue but I'm not sure?

“Dead zone” means the amount you have to move your stick before it is registered. This lets your finger rest on the stick and possibly wiggle a little without making your character move.
It doesn’t make the character move inconsistently.
Use the joystick tester in the Xbox accessories app to verify if your stick movements are being registered right.
If they aren’t, then you’ll need to use the warranty to get it replaced or buy a new one
