Xbox App Error Having Trouble Installing Or Launching Games
I tried to do "get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers" in powershell
But it is coming up with an error
remove-AppxPackage : Removal failed. Please contact your software vendor.
Deployment Remove operation with target volume C: on Package Microsoft.GamingServices_10.75.13001.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe
from: failed with error 0x80070002. See http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=235160 for help diagnosing app

i forget if powershell commands are case sensitive or not... but you can see that there is a case mismatch between the get and remove.
So try replacing the first part with Get-AppxPackage which is the actual command
(note, I am not suggesting that removing pacakges with powershell is the correct solution to whatever your original problem was)
Same error
i'd debug the two halves separately. i assume your attempt to list the packages is what's actually failing
try
Remove-Item -Path "HKLM:\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServices" -recurse
Remove-Item : Cannot find path 'HKLM:\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServices' because it does not exist.

forgot the net part sorry

could you try search for the gaming services and see if its installed in the settings apps
if it does not appear then i might know what the issue is
Doesnt appear
search with the word: microsoft and look through the list of items
In settings?
if gaming services isnt installed and running then nothing is going to work. If it isnt installed you should have a pop up in the xbox app to install it. Or you can install it from the microsoft store
are you familiar with the registry editor @clever eagle
I dont have an option to install it in the microsoft store
gaming services comes preinstalled with windows 10 it could have corrupted during a xbox app update it happens
when you used powershell did you install it back?
No because It did not give me an option to reinstall it
you need to delete two registry keys and you should get a update for the gaming services in the microsoft store must i guide on it?
Please
open the registry and go to this directory
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServices]
Its not there
is there any folder named gaming services?
then gaming services is uninstalled
Okay
click on Start type in Services and click on the services app in the list do you see Gaming services and if its there is it running or paused ?
Not there
get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices
so you somehow uninstalled it and need to do what AGTV told you to do and install it back
open the powershell as admin
Done
did it complete without any errors?
Yea
restart your pc
Okay
and then check the registry again after it has rebooted
try this guide Paul has linked if all else fails
I was hesitant enough to suggest powershell commands but they were simple ones so okay.
But o definitely do not recommend editing your registry. You can literally ruin your entire windows install with single keystrokes on that.
Use the troubleshooting guides linked.
You can also review the “reset windows” guides on the Microsoft site if worse comes to worse.
just do a back up before you mess with anything so if it brakes you can roll back
I suggested he look and see if the directory path for the gaming services were there nothing more it is dangerous to fiddle around with your registry but It helps know if the service registry keys are installed as it helps identify the problem and confirms if the app is broken or not
@clever eagle any update?
My friend is helping me diagnose
hi, i am @clever eagles friend, the Gaming Services install button does not show up, all the xbox services are running, however his Xbox app does not load his games.
so gaming services is installed and running then because tha isnt what they said before
so are the registry keys now installed?
if so its best to open the microsoft store and check for updates
and reset / repair the xbox app
i dont know, he just told me about it cause i had the same issues and i had services missing but his are all present from what i can see
give me a minute to get him to quick assist.
Okay so the xbox live services are running.
This is @gloomy walrus on quick assist btw.
cool now try to repair / reset your xbox app
and also open the microsoft store and under library check for any updates
cool i guess your issue is sorted
How
Okay so he can login to Xbox, but it shows “having trouble installing games or apps? Fix it now” when we click that it just brings you to a useless support site
his games also don’t show.
open search , search for xbox , right click and select app settings
I did that
and you didnt see a screen like this?
Like what?
sent a image in dms
please open powershell as admin and paste this
start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
hopefully it works
you cant send images here
Theres no install button
yes because gaming services is already installed
now can you please check if the issue is resolved usually starting that service fixes the issue
you know what lets do all the steps in order then
Step 1:
Get-AppxPackage gamingservices | remove-appxpackage
Step 2:
start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
Step 3:
open microsoft store and search for gaming services
Step 4:
install gaming services and restart
I will try later not at home atm
Theres no install button
As stated above
Might just needa buy a new pc
Fresh Start in Windows 10 lets you perform a clean reinstallation and update of Windows while keeping your personal data and most Windows settings intact.
So I am losing all my data?
Read the page. You have to reinstall your apps but you don’t lose your files if you follow the instructions and read everything displayed. Also backup your important documents anyway
And what happens if that doesnt work?
Then you try something else?
Like buying a new pc?
My pc is only like 11 years old so I dont see how this is happening
You do not need to “buy a new PC” to fix some weird software issue.
I heard turning it off and back on again works
Okay I hope over the past literally-100+ messages you’ve tried rebooting 😦
Yes!
Yeah, shutting down and rebooting does nothing, this stupid app never works
and the support page it gives me on fix it now is useless completely
okay, my suggestion from 3 hours ago is still valid though
Apologies for my bad english
Fresh Start in Windows 10 lets you perform a clean reinstallation and update of Windows while keeping your personal data and most Windows settings intact.
If you wanted Win10, you should have selected option for Win10. And no, Win11 is not a virus, it’s the updated OS. Your files are gone because you did a clean reinstallation.
No not clean
Ok. The link post was for a clean install. So if you didn’t follow that and your files are gone, what did you do?
^^^
I lost my files
Then you didn’t follow the instructions. A reset keeps your files.
Also a reset wouldn’t change the version of the operating system you have installed.
I also mentioned you should back up your files, so assuming you did that then putting them all back would be easy
if you select keeps filies then they are kept
Did you do a backup before you reset everything ?
if you did then you can add them back if not then you should have followed the steps correctly as advised. There isnt away to get those back once fully delated.
No because it said it would do it for me
if you selected to back up then they are backed up.
You cant have it both ways either you selected it and they are there or you didnt and they are not.
Whats missing exacty are they apps and games? Are word docements ?
and just to renote: a standard windows reset does not change the version of Winddows you're running... so something else was done here
so do i have virus?
then how 11
because you upgraded too win 11
quite simply put you did things wrong and here we are.
You don’t have a virus and you didn’t get hacked.
I suggest you contact official Microsoft support for further assistance with your windows install
are you no official support
No. This is “community” support
but why ✅
because were not this as gone on now for 160 messages and you just found this out - we cant help you any further.
but
