2070S and 5700XT are almost exactly the same performance. but you gain the ability to do RT, you can use DLSS in the few games that support it. and the chip supports a lot of the features (not all) that the next gen consoles do, so its in a better position to last you a couple years than the 5700XT is

yes but they dont make RGB anything, and the amount of extra cooling performance you gain in a P400a or P500a by replacing the stock fans with noctua fans comes down to about a 2 degree difference, which means you'd just be basically throwing your $100 in the trash for no reason

one other thing I just realized with my CPU upgrade/rebuild. Doing away with good old SATA SSD and HDD I can free up the space the hard drive bay takes up. That will be nice

yes, and you install windows to the ADATA, and use the P2 for your steam library (you can google how to set up a steam install folder on a second drive, its easy though)

if its cheaper than the AOC in your area, go for it, but be aware that its VERY curved, a lot moreso than the AOC or any other monitors

I think the G5 has the same curve as my G7, if so it is very curved. I can try and take a picture of it on my phone from the side probably the only way to really notice is as I don't notice the curve otherwise when staring right at the monitor

just be sure to update the monitor firmware. The latest firmware update on the G7 is a game changer. They may have fixed VA flickering. I'm sure that update will feature on the G5 and G9 soon, if it isn't already available

I can't wait to try and get my hands on a 6800 XT. Pair that up with my Samsung Odyssey G7 (1440p 240Hz) and 5600X. Might not be able to reach 240 FPS in every game but such a system should still do a very fine job staying well above 60 FPS without ray tracing settings enabled. I'm in no real hurry to jump on the ray tracing hype train just yet

I don't mind waiting just a little longer for it to become less demanding to the point that some day it won't require the assistance of features like Nvidia's DLSS just for a game to become more playable and if I was to guess when that would be, I'd say at least the equivalent of two GPU generations out for both Nvidia and AMD, though Nvidia do have a whole generation head start on AMD

after I rebuild my system I really want to try and get my hands on a 6800 XT as quick as possible. Can't wait to see all the performance improvements overall. On the CPU end I should expect to see some pretty major improvements going from an i7 6700K to a Ryzen 5 5600X. GPU is like double the performance of the 5700 XT it would seem, with features like smart access memory giving me a little extra performance. Memory should make a huge difference coming from 4x 4GB 2133MHz kits to 2x 16GB 3600MHz kits and to top all that off a 1TB NVMe SSD for some really fast load times. This is like I'm new to PC gaming again. I'm so happy! rooHappy

I found game bar to be laggy. Tried it once when playing Forza Horizon 4. Didn't like it. My only other options would be RTSS + MSI Afterburner (which now works with Navi GPUs!) or using Radeon Software's metrics overlay - Both of which are overlays and some games I play may not take kindly to them being open making things a little awkward there

ideally it would be better if you built a system yourself rather than buy one prebuilt. Saves you money that you can put into getting a better system. Prebuilds may charge a fee for building the system or put in cheap components that may not last you too long. Build it yourself then you have a system you want and only budget really becomes a limiting factor

That I can confirm and it has taken me some time to figure out HDR on PC properly. Some games require HDR to be enabled through windows display settings while others can have HDR enabled in game. Something I had to do with my monitor, even though I have local dimming set to auto was to turn it on then back to auto when playing games with HDR enabled and it does make a difference, at least on the in game HDR games. I'm otherwise convinced the games that use windows display settings HDR toggle is fake

I wonder if RT ambient occlusion, shadows and reflections can be added to any game. Along with VRS. Not that it really needs it but I'd like to see all that in use with The Division 2. Performance will probably be horrible but if AMD's equivalent to DLSS can be enabled alongside VRS then we should see a nice little gain in performance to offset the losses from ray tracing. Sounds like something's wrong with your system. A 2600/RX 580 configuration should be way, way over 60 FPS at 1080p on Doom Eternal.

Hello to you all I need some help with the Xbox Elite Controller V2 for Windows gaming. So, I'm planning on getting a mod to make it possible to use an Xbox controller with Minecraft Java. Is it possible to assign the paddles to a button that isn't existent on the controller already? What I mean is, let's say I'm already using all the buttons on the front side of the controller, but still want a dedicated button for switching to your off hand. so yeah, 6800XT, reference, without SAM, is closer to the 3080 with RT enabled than it is to the 3070, performance wise. sam will boost perf even more, and aib cards running 500+ faster than reference, and thus running the cache at 500mhz+ faster than reference, will see a dramatic uplift in RT performance. crawling through the bvh tree is a memory bound operation, and its small enough to fit in cache, so... yeah

DLSS will allow a 3070 to perform well, but the main issue is the 8gb vram is already not enough for some current gen games like watch dogs legion on ultra settings, let alone once cross-gen support gets dropped and vram requirements skyrocket

anyway, AIB 6800XTs that ship with ~2.5ghz+ turbos instead of the ~2ghz game clock of the reference model will have 25% more cache bandwidth, so RT performance should massively increase, more than raster performance will even. and that'll be enough to get near a 3080 with DLSS enabled, if we use tomb raider as the example to compare, i'll show you what i mean

a 6800XT with a 20% overclock will likely be kissing 100fps in this test, and sam will add a bit more perf, and that's without amd's own super resolution 😉

so yeah, nvidia's in a tough spot, in at least the early RT games we already have. once games start to push even more effects, or do different things with them, ampere will likely pull away a bit with RT enabled, but uh, its looking pretty good atm

btw, I don't want to speak too soon but since applying Hardware Unboxed's Division 2 graphics optimizations I enabled DirectX 12 and seems like I no longer crash in game. That to me points out DirectX 12 crashes must be related to one of the settings being maxed out

guess the real test will be when I try to play through a mission. So far I've just been exploring the game world and clearing checkpoints solo and on heroic difficulty so things do get pretty hectic. Missions always crashed for me when I tried them in the past on both my 1080 Ti and 5700 XT

I'm really considering getting a monitor arm or bracket to put the monitor on the wall. Now I see what people mean when they said Samsung monitor legs are pretty flimsy (if that is the right word for it). Shake my desk a little and the monitor wobbles quite a bit like it isn't secure but I made sure to tighten all the screws

really like the G7 now. That is maybe my only issue with this monitor now since it seems Samsung finally managed to fix the flickering of their VA panel. Shame this flickering fix may be exclusive (at least to Samsung) across the G5, G7 and G9 monitors. Owners of older models might not get it

the flicker issue affects tons of displays, not just samsung VA panels. its more prominent on geforce cards running freesync (disabling adaptive sync stops the flicker on most of these occurances). but its been an ongoing issue for a good long while

well Samsung recently added an option within the monitor's OSD called VRR Control. Can only be toggled on or off when G-Sync or Freesync is enabled and should result in not only the usual tear free gaming experience one should expect from either Freesync or G-Sync but flicker free with VA now too
