Every achievement has a numerical value, and they are just added up. I don't know if there were ever plans to do something else with it. I feel pretty confident in saying that if there are any edge cases where it "does something" they're solidly the exception.

The annoying thing was that I needed 3 to get it rounded off, so I paid ยฃ4 to buy Threes which has some 3GS achievements.
The first should unlock right away, but it didn't so I figured it wouldn't work in the tutorial and needed a proper round. Nope, just delayed and it popped shortly after, along with other achievements also for 3GS and leaving me with an odd number again.

MCC has a lot of gamerscore because they added a lot of DLC, but many of those achievements are difficult and/or time consuming, so terrible for something like this.
But those couple hundred achievements are still going to take you a long time and earn you a couple of thousand gamerscore. Whereas I could earn 10K in less than half the time it takes you to bang out those couple hundred.

Yeah but I wouldn't care about completing the whole MCC. Just getting most of the super quick achievements and moving on to the next game - for which MCC is perfect cause it has 700 achievements - most of which are just for completing missions.
