Guardian Druid Resources
F.A.Q
Should I macro Ironfur to thrash/mangle/whatever, yes or no?
Short answer, no.
Long answer, macroing Ironfur reduces your control. Being able to pool (store) rage for specific damage instances or occurrences is an important part of guardian play and should be something you learn very early on in playing guardian. By macroing ironfur to a rotational key you either:
a. Sacrifice the ability to pool rage (some examples of why you would pool are listed below)
b. Sacrifice your rotation by not pressing the macro in order to continue to pool ironfur (i.e. not pressing thrash deliberately to pool rage)
Both of which are examples of poor play.
Some examples of why macroing ironfur to a rotational spell is not a good idea:
- In raid, if you are currently not tanking you could be spending your rage on mauls to safely dish out more damage at no sacrifice to yourself.
- In raid, if you are currently not tanking but are getting ready to taunt the boss of your co-tank it would be more beneficial to do so with a full rage bar to get multiple ironfurs up and running for a smooth transition to getting hit in the face.
- In raid or m+, you are currently tanking and a very large physical tank buster is coming up in the near future, it is beneficial to refresh ironfur late at 1-2 stacks in order to have a full rage bar to dump on multiple ironfurs before this buster hits (significantly reducing its damage).
- In raid or m+, you are currently tanking but the physical damage you are taking is not that high then you could comfortably maintain one to a few stacks of ironfur and spend any additional rage on maul/raze.
- In m+, as a pack is dying being able to get a full rage bar to head into the next pack is a huge defensive gain for guardian druids at their weakest part of any pull (the first few seconds before rage starts rolling)

How does HotW work?
When in any other form than bear you’ll cast an empowered spell from that form.
- In Moonkin Form you’ll cast Starfall
- In Caster Form you’ll cast Wild Growth
- In Cat Form you’ll cast Feral Frenzy
In almost all situation you’ll want to cast HotW in Cat Form on your primary target, Starfall can be used on massive pulls if you want more damage overall (think first pull of academy for example), Wild Growth to support your healer if off healing is needed
Ideal use is as follow
(this assume you have Fluid Form talented)
Rake (switches you to Cat Form) on a priority tagret > Hotw > Mangle (switches you to Bear Form)
Am i in danger when doing this ?
No, due to Persistence in the Spec tree you keep bear armour/hp/crit immunity for a short time when switching forms. You are completely safe switching forms, as long as you switch back to bear in less than 8 seconds
How does Red Moon work?
Once applied to the target, every time you cast Mangle on the target affected it’ll increase the duration by 1 second. In single target your highest priority is to ensure Red Moon has the highest uptime possible (around 40-50% on average).
Every Mangle cast on the target while Red Moon is up also grants you 8 rage. In single target that should net you about 15% of your rage gen.

How do I log?
So, if you have been here for a while, you may have noticed that whenever somebody ask for advice we ask them for a log, and if you’re new you might have no idea what that means or how to get one so:
- Download MRT (https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/method-raid-tools) or Loggerhead (https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/loggerhead)
Once you have one of these any time you enter a zone where you might want a log (ie dungeon/raid/pvp) these addons will automatically start logging (in the case of MRT you have to activate automated logging in the options).
Alternatively if you don’t want to install an addon for it, whenever you are going to do an activity you want to log type /combatlog in chat to start logging said activity.
Remember to activate advanced logging in the options
All these options will store your logs in your wow file inside the retail folder and the log file.
-
Go here (https://www.warcraftlogs.com/client/download) download the client. Select the live section of the client, select the upload a log button and select the fight you’re interested in putting up as a log and boom(kin) you’re done.
-
Once you’ve done all this and your log is uploaded, you can put the link in here (make sure it’s public or unlisted - not private) and we can look at it together to see if you’re doing something wrong.
