Almost everything about druid that people like comes from the expansions. I guess feral was better than anyone ever guessed back in vanilla given an endless supply of Manual Crowd Pummelers, but if I were going to go that route I think I would rather just play rogue.

Druid in general is just a healer. Feral is unplayable because u cant use your dots in raids because of the dot limit, balance just makes you oom in seconds and guardian cant avoid crushing blows. However resto is very welcom. With the right idol u can be the only healer that never goes oom. You’re always needed for innervate and buffs. In terms of pvp u are the best fc and pritty much the best 1v1 class if played right

feral was fun in cata, i enjoyed killing players in world pvp especially during those dailies in the firelands quest area, i think ppl had to do them because gear for raids
but i liked it less when i couldn't shapeshift out of majordomo's root when you attack him, breaks class immersion

feral was fun in cata in general because full time bearcat is actually really impactful, especially in 10mans
it just sucked (although inevitable) that they can't balance encounters around 2 difficulties without one being significantly harder than the other
mostly because of ground-based and chaining mechanics

Hey, I've been doing some reading up on the class i intend to play for classic, The feral dps druid.
Ive been reading the wowhead guide and under feral dps / hit rating it says
"Since you're a tank and you'll be attacking the Boss from the front, even with 9% Hit Rating, Activated Abilities have a chance to not connect."
I know feral can do both tank and dps (part of the reason i want to play it) but am i expected to tank damage even as a cat druid?

If the situation arises yes. Back in classic, Feral DPS wasn't really a thing in prog raiding. Bear off tank was the closest it got. But if you found the right guild to raid with, your support abilities like rebirth, innovate, emergency tanking and healing would be prioritised over pure dps.
So yes and no. You wouldn't be expected to, but if a healer or tank went down, you would slide into those roles

the tank page is litrally a copypaste of the dps version, so does also not have the hitrating we need for hitting the boss with our abilities frmo the front.

@covert rover @obtuse pawn im fairly sure that guide is just wrong front or not (at least in later expansions maybe vanilla is very weird here but it would surprise me) doesnt change your miss chance, what does change is it adds parry to the "miss pool" however that isnt fixed by extra hit its fixed by weaponskill (and expertise later on) and for 2 handed or special attacks 8 or 9 % hit is enough
or reading that sentance it does not say you miss
so it would still be correct
