I didn't know what kind of antenna to buy when I grabbed this SDR USB tuner but now I read into things a little, I should be good to make one of these spider antennae. Just wondered if the thickness of the wire used will affect the length needed for the main wire and the legs. I have satellite cable with around 1mm single core and electrical 3-core with 1.45mm copper core.
F-Connectors should be good, but the 10base-2 cable in stranded core so I thing I'd have to solder that to use it as to connect the antenna to the SMA on the tuner. Would I be better looking for long USB cable I have somewhere and keeping the antenna cable as short as possible?
I see Velocity Factor mentioned in calculator and guides, but most ignored, does the material type and thickness make a difference?
Is the plastic insulation on electrical wire going to cause any problems? Might look better with a bit of colour 😄
I guess brass is a better conductor than zinc coated steel, but how much difference would it make to use f-connectors and regular M10 penny washer? I'd rather use what I already have.
I'll do some testing when I get the tuner but wondered if anybody already tried. most writeups and guides seem to stick to the same specific parts, maybe that is because they already did the testing?
