Hello, I'm curious what yall's 978Mhz "UAT signal level" graphs look like, compared to the 1090Mhz weakest signal being recommended to be around -30-(-35)db, the 978Mhz graph feels "narrow".
However I understand that with my average uat tracks being 2-3 that I won't get anywhere relatively close to the data set that dump1090 receives.
tia, mostly just curious if it looks like I'm playing it too safe trying to not miss any nearby aircraft etc.
#978Mhz/UAT gain settings

My gut feel (from the other end of the world where UAT isn't a thing) is that you won't get weak signals on UAT as they are GA aircraft at low altitudes so the horizon means you can will only receive nearby (ie stronger) signals. As such the graph will show a lesser signal strength range. I would also assume more interference from cellphone signals as 978 is closer to them - thus a higher noise level.
@fluid dust nailed it.
so really the gain just isn't as finicky/important as 1090 as long as you're not blowing out near-overhead signals? ty
Correct, the default setting on the image will be fine for the vast majority of users.
