Does anybody know whether/how is it possible to use a rtl_tcp server (instead of USB) as a source for tar1090?

tar1090 doesn't talk to SDR devices. It depends on a separate decoder - readsb or dump1090-fa. AFAIK neither of those decoders support rtl_tcp. Depending on what you're trying to accomplish, maybe you could run two instances of readsb - one to talk to the SDR, and another to supply tar1090, and feed data from one to the other over IP. I've never done this myself, but it should be straightforward enough, I believe.
