I'm re-making a sourcebook for a campaign I'm doing called "Dragonsong", which is a Legend of Zelda-based homebrew I found. I'm doing a lot of information expansion and I'm looking for some feedback or additional ideas to add.

Planned to add:

  • Information on all nations in Hlofa (it's not just Hyrule, surprise surprise)
  • Add all species and possibly rebalance if needed
  • Add Twili species since that seemed to be glanced over.
  • Add items from the Zelda series as weapons
  • Expand on bits and pieces of Hlofan history.
#

Alternate name for the sourcebook is "The Hlofa Compendium: A Comprehensive Look at Cultural and Historical Hlofa".

do you have a homebrewery share link rather than a pdf to download? People will tend to prefer webpages vs downloading of files to their computer.

Oh yeah, fair. I'll post the link when I get to my PC.

I'm gonna need to get better art that looks handsketched for this.

Dr Ternith made a Zelda brew and was looking for feedback/a couple art tokens

Alrighty

It's nowhere near complete, but I'm hoping to work on it over time as I get off work.

Alright

The idea is to write it similarly to a journal, something you might find along your journeys in Hyrule.

#

I'm also adding a few races that Dragonsong didn't include (like the Twili) and some monster stat blocks for things like Bandits, Royal Guard, Shadow Beasts, etc.

Honestly that sounds cool. I still have a scuffed Zelda module that was more objective but not really... balanced or... well made.

#

Never heard of Dragonsong before, so I'll look that up.

It's made by NotPrior. He made a Homebrewery for it and its been left incomplete for certain realms and whatnot. It also barely expands on certain aspects and doesn't provide any monster stats or item blocks in the newer version vs. The older version.

Alright. The only thing from my module Im confident in giving, if there isn't any, is some new weapons, which are:
Simple Melee - Hammer
Simple Ranged - Boomerang & Slingshot
Martial Melee - Ball and Chain
Martial Ranged - Bomb Bag & Hookshot

Yeah, Bombchus were classified as a varient of bomb, as both bombs and slingshot ammo had different versions. They were boring for some, so I used a different module's versions to make them useful (Like the different seeds from the Oracle games just changed the damage type, but the boost was just giving a damage boost or secondary effect)

I'm also making some unique gear for my players, for example, a harp blessed by Hylia (Zelda) that also acts as a bow. When attuned, you can fire off arrows of light and deal radiant damage, as well as power-up the harp with shards of the Triforce of Wisdom.

#

Another one is a Twilight-forged blade that, when attuned to, can create small pockets of Twilight and transform targets into Shadow Beasts or Souls.

Was talking to someone earlier. Some ideas/concepts for the Twili:

Three sub-species:

  • Aristocrat: Twili that exist as part of the Royal Consul, a 300-strong council which elects a King/Queen as a for-life term. Most Aristocrats are more knowledgeable in Twilight Magics, and gain one Twilight cantrip (which will be homebrewed).
  • Warrior: The ways of the Interlopers died with the creation of the Kingdom of Twilight. Twili Warriors gain advantage on any perception checks in the hours of Twilight in any realm, as well as gain proficiency with any one-handed weapon and most armors.
  • Scholar: With the formation of the Kingdom, the need for historians and scholars became apparent. Twili Scholars gain advantage on history checks directed to any time period before the Twilight Invasion (before 1454) and after the Interloper Exile.

Okay, from a design perspective, should I start with making an outline of the document and then write it? Or just write as I go?

#

When I say an outline, I mean a series of pages where I make the section titles and then the actual section after all sections are outlined.

I mean, planning your writing beforehand is both a great way to ensure what you write is coherent and sensible and also great at stalling your momentum

prime lance
#

Yeah, but my momentum is already stalled as is since I'm at the end of a 9 day week.

autumn sorrel
#

you still have to get out of the stall eventually

#

don't want to crash after all

#

so weigh your options carefully

prime lance
#

Yeah, that's why I'm keeping it a steady pace so I don't burn out. I try to write out one page a day with any (coherent) information I can throw in.

But making an outline can also help me visualize how I should set up the chapters. For example, the Land, Sea, and Sky chapter, I can format it as:

  • The Sky - Religions of Hlofa
  • The Sea - Magic and Sages
  • The Land - Nations of Hlofa
