Brass Knuckles deal 1d4 Bludgeoning. I was wondering if I'm able to add Str to it since it has the property of Unarmed. My normal unarmed strike deals 1+Str which totals out to 4 which would always be more beneficial to use over the brass knuckles which doesn't seem correct.
Unarmed is described like this, "When you make an unarmed attack you can choose to deal the damage of this weapon instead of your normal unarmed attack damage."

benjamin huffman's wording here is not the best. you'd have to ask him for designer intent but I believe the RAI is:
Unarmed. While you are wielding this weapon, you can use this weapon's damage die for the damage die of your unarmed strikes.

got it. but that would still mean i should use unarmed strike over the brass knuckles every time, correct? the knuckles would be 1-4 damage, while the unarmed strike would always be 4?
realistically id use the fisticuffs ability but this just seems like an interesting interaction
