The Veil - Using your reaction to deal damage on your turn feels weird, perhaps use a bonus action
Oh well it’s a reaction when you hit with an attack, it still feels bad to have to consume a reaction on your turn. I would honestly rework this ability to utilize sneak attack in some way
and you can still Steal a reaction from your target
Sure… but Halo of Spores is a reaction when a creature gets close to you, not when you land a blow. Using a reaction when you make an attack feels bizarre, and I guess it’s somewhat supported by Astral Key, which itself is a weird and weirdly worded feature that could use refinement. Plus, Halo of Spores deals 1d4 necrotic damage on a failed save, Veil deals 1d6 psychic uncontested, so is much more powerful on every account.
Normally I would say “eh it’s a buff for a martial” but rogue with its sneak attack is just a lot of damage, piled with a not-commonly resisted type.
I suppose a reaction is a bit of a steep penalty to use this early but it’s really however you view it
i see your point, maybe I should change the dmg type
Thanks for your feedback Quinn, really apreciated!
Eh, your only other thematic option is force and that’s more busted than psychic
I would drop the die down to a d4
or just use the dmg from the weapon
that would be valid too
My first version was starting at 1d4 indeed, but some reddit users told me to increase it
the thing is that this subclass with this feature obviously benefits from dual wielding, but i dont want to force it tho
if you use dual wield 1d4 is more than enough
I think you may wanna Re-approach your design philosophy on this then. If In your writing dual wielders are coming up favored and it’s not the intent, I would be comsidering a rework
any tip on how to do that? maybe just word this damage doesnt apply to offhand weapons?
Actually it doesn’t even do this because it costs a reaction to use it
Ahhhh but you can steal a reaction
I’d just clean it up, say you can only deal the damage once per turn
No need to consume a reaction over it imo
but that just feels bad 😦
for me hahaha
